Why is there always 1 family member who wants to ruin the holidays every fucking year

In our family it's my father.

Every year we go through the same thing...he's either coming for the holidays or he's not *depends upon his mood*

He puts up his decorations and tree etc and then threatens to pull them down, sometiems he does pull them all down..now he's even talking about taking all the presents back.

He's not doing this because he's pissed at me...but my younger brother who is a spoiled rotten little shit.

But this has been going on every single year of my adult life...and happens on every holiday/family event whether it's Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Family Reunion, Birthday whatever.

And he's already doing it again this year...he calls up last night and is talking about the Mavericks and then next thing that comes out of his mouth..."well I'm putting all the christmas decorations back...probably going to take all the christmas presents back.."

I didn't give him enough time to finish...told him.."Dad I don't have time for this I gotta go."

Then hung the fuck up.

Maybe he prefers to celebrate Festivus.

Sorry to hear that - but you are right - there is usually one Scrooge in the bunch.

Good luck.

Make sure that if he asks where his presents are, you tell him that everyone figured he was on strike that christmas and didn't want them anyways. :)

Some family members ruin it just by showing up. :BangBang:

I've never seen one single family where there wasn't someone like this.. guess it's just a rule that somebody has got to fuck things up

Maybe he's Jewish.

I just moved to Vegas and left my weird, drama-loving family members back in east texas and i have no intentions of ever going back there or inviting them out here. life is too short to deal with people that love being miserable and bringing thier misery into other people's lives.

Does he drink? Him and mom would get along great, she owns a bar in Tyler.

And some family members ruin it because they engage in that old blindside thing.

I'm going to follow the previous advice and drink early and often.

I typed out a 10 paragraph story, but I figured no one REALLY wanted to read the long version, so here's the short one. LOL

No one in my family ever ruined holidays. I lucked out with a pretty great family as a kid. Holidays ROCKED!

But my husband's sister ruined Thanksgiving last year. Among other things, she was 8 hours late for dinner, she continually insulted me for no reason even though I was a complete angel to her as a courtesy to their elderly father who was there, she accused me of buying a coffee pot just because she bought one (my husband bought it, I don't even like coffee) and did I mention that she insulted me about 5000 times that day? I ended up in the hospital because she got me so upset that my blood pressure rose so high I could barely breathe. The nurse in the ER said she'd only seen BP that high maybe a dozen times in the 10 years she'd been a nurse and that I'd probably have had a heart attack if I hadn't come in when I did. So, yeah, she almost killed me. And yes, that's the short version! :1orglaugh

She is banned from my house permanently. I will call the police if she ever steps foot in my yard again. I'm not having a heart attack because of her and I don't want my kids to have all their holidays ruined.

Sorry to hear about your dad. That's really got to suck. :(

Last year my cousin "came out" during Thanksgiving dinner.
I can only imagine he was just trying to kill our grandmother.
(She's from the old world). I just wish he hadn't brought the syphillis to the table. It's pretty unsightly, all the white spotty rash.

The holidays. Putting the fun back in DysFUNctional Family.
