From the looks of the design, I don't think he's been in the biz long enought to know better.

The forum has a search feature for a reason.

jaYMan 11-24-2003 01:15 AM

When it's a big topic, why not?
You don't like it when people bitch about threads being done. But if you re-do a thread, people will bitch. So you should do all you can to avoid re-doing a thread.

Regardless, I wasn't bitching about the fact that the thread was being re-done. I was pointing out the fact that this has been discussed before.

The program is run out of Poland. The site has been up for a while. IIRC, Playboy has tried to take it done without success.

Gotcha. So a search would yeild more information for those who are interested or if this is thier first time hearing about it.

Not sure why I assumed you were bitching. Guess I'm just tired of the this threads been done before yak yak.

FYI:
Playboy was a used word in the OED long before Hefner used the word to create his business -
This site is using one word "pantyplayboy" and clearly adds a link to playboy to dispell any confusion -
Me a newby?
I opened my first 2 sites in 1996 and have been full time on my projects since then.
As for the design - Current sign ups with PP are around 1-150, which isn't bad - But It does happen that a new design is currently in the pipeline -

Maybe - Pantyplayboy is most certainly not -

Do a little research and you will find the term playboy first used back in 1923 by an English author -

Almost 8 years of experience online and not knowing what a trademark is? Sheesh. Maybe you should go wax cars.

Trademarks are national things. Maybe Playboy doesn't have the trademark in Poland?

Read what psyko514 had to say in this thread -
Playboy lawyers did contact me about 18 months ago - And tried to force me to pass the domain to them - I gave them several pieces of info which I would use in my defence should a case arise -
If you are a lawyer yourself - Which I very much doubt based on your tactless argument, then learn to do a little research.
In the uk, you can not buy a word out of the dictionary for business purposes and then stop everybody else using it.

And you are also quite wrong about the Hun - Several books use that term in their title going back to just after the 2nd World War - I somehow could not see the Hun taking these writers to court -
Should someone copy his tgp and use the term, them maybe he has a case.

Of course I know full well what a trademark is -
Playboy is one word
Pantyplayboy is one word -

Playboy lawyers BACKED DOWN from taking me to court because of my knowledge of trademarks -

What part of this do you not understand???

if you say so, but I'm 100% sure that if you use thehun in your EU hosted domain, you will get millions of img src hits to your site daily to take it down. It's not always a question of law.

But in your title you do use the word'S panty playboy as two words! And also on the bottom of the page! You're not using them as ONE word like you said! Is that using their trademark there?

It seems to me that a lot of cases like this get settled outside the court after a threat to go to court has been made, also the richest party seems to win in the US courts most of the time.
The whole acacia thing, why won't anyone confront them? Because it's too expensive, but hell that patent should be fought against in the courts.

anyone can tell immediately they are not at the playboy home site. Apparently if what he says is true about PB lawyers hes in the clear, if PB lawyers dont pursue you, then you can tell all the people on here to GFY

WicKed NinJas 11-24-2003 02:15 AM

From my understanding the only thing related to playboy mag that you cannot use is the bunny symbol. You can trademark a word but you cannot prevent people from using all variations of it. As far as your theory on The Hun, I remember someone opening a site called "freehun.com", he said he ment it as "free hunnys" now in this argument the name "freehun.com" would haev been a case for question, had he actually gotten "freehunnys" no one could say a fucking word because it obviously means somehting different, point being Pantyplayboy and Playboy are different, bottom line. Honestly How many people do you think are gonna be looking for the playboy site and accidently type in pantyplayboy?...NONE...so how does this affect playboy....IT DOESNT.

Since 99% of everything said on GFY is a flame to try to cut someone else to make yourself feel better, let the loser flames begin.

Without reading the small print on the very bottom of the page, the surfer (who got to the page whichever way) might think the site was affiliated with the Playboy. :2 cents:

And that would obviously be taking advantage of a well-known trademark and misleading to the surfer.

An 8 year old boy coming across the site would have to be mentally handicapped and partially blind to think the site was associated with Playboy.
