Wow, can they really do this now?! (don't look if squeemish)
He won't be able to use it, but if the hand heals over and eventually bonds together again... that's just fucking amazing!!
I've heard of reattaching the top of a pinkie finger, but never anything like this. <img src="http://www.hotlinkpro.com/hand.jpg"> |

Shame he cant ever use it but better than nothing and atleast it is there and the tissue and muscle are still alive incase technology evolves so that he can use it.

The difficulty in those kind of re-attachments is encouraging bloodflow into the reattached limbs. with all the arteries, capillaries etc severed, reattaching them can be an extremely tedious process, and it's not always guaranteed that it will take. If bloodflow is not restored within a certain amount of time, the tissue will die and reattaching is pointless. It can only be done within a certain time or the limbs are just gone.
But yeah, that is cool. It's when they can regenerate nerve tissue (which fish can do, which is a reason they are a subject of fascination for neurologists) that things will be VERY cool. |
Never distract the chef when he's chopping the veggies for your dinner. You might get a surprise. :eek7

... I guess the nurse would have to do it. :Graucho |
The hand (reattached of course) is looking pretty good. Not sure if the second pic was taken right after surgery or not, but if it was taken a few days after surgery then it is looking nice.
Coloring is ok, not a great deal of swelling etc. They use leaches in a lot of these cases. Those suckers do a mighty fine job. A teacher at a local school decided it would be a damn good idea to clean a hunk of grass out of the lawnmower while it was still running. Three fingers later she remembered that she wasn't supposed to do that. They reattached all 3, of those 2 took nicely and with a lot of therapy she will get some limited use of them, the third didn't take. They looked really nasty though during the healing process. |
i had my head severed and they put it back on.... twice....
