" Red Dwarf " ...A UK TV Show...Any Fans?

I've only seen two episodes yet they were so funny I only actually saw half of each episode because I was laughing so hard.

Thanks! Every once in a while I'll catch a tv show from the UK that's great. I'll be looking forward to seeing this series!

El Pres 11-22-2003 10:12 AM

hehe great series, smeghead.

dougeetx 11-22-2003 10:25 AM

Coolio show! I love it! I still watch it every once in a while. I also catch "Are You Being Served" and I wish they'd bring back "Dr. Who"

johnuk 11-22-2003 12:10 PM

Great show, they're shooting a movie right now I believe, don't know if it'll work or not though.

Cirrus 11-22-2003 12:12 PM

I like it

aaron 11-22-2003 12:14 PM

good show, i heard about the movie too :)

Tipsy 11-22-2003 12:26 PM

I've probably seen each episode at least 3 times, some many more. Superb show once they'd ironed out the kinks and got rid of the original Kryton :)

Chris E 11-22-2003 12:54 PM

Used to be a few years back!

Lee 11-22-2003 01:04 PM

There was no dwarf. The show was sci-fi. Red Dwarf is a type of star.

I used to watch it often when I was 14 or 15. Great stuff.

Go Smeg Yourself.

Rimmer World!

Tipsy 11-22-2003 04:11 PM

Now....you have to ask yourself how well the true meaning of 'smeg' travelled across the pond if at all... :)

Sarah_Jayne 11-22-2003 06:37 PM

Would you like toast?

Greg B 11-22-2003 07:42 PM

There was another Brit show I think called "The Young Ones" and it was about these loser punks that lived together. I saw one episode that was so funny we couldn't watch it again.

In this episode a hamster got into a plate of beans and had the farts and was flying all over the house like a balloon farting.

It was so hysterical that our eyes hurt.

Ever since Monty Python and Marty Feldman shows, I am very cautious about watching any British comedy because they can be so brutally funny that you can hurt yourself.

Sarah_Jayne 11-22-2003 08:40 PM

If you watch the Young Ones you will see just about anyone who is anyone in modern UK comedy but when they were much younger. Even Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders the creators of ABFAB were in an episode.

BlackAdder is also a classic smart Brit Com

Plan9 11-22-2003 08:41 PM

Im as American as they come, but I love that show! Fucking cracks me up every time. Its one British comedy I actually enjoy, the others I've seen just didn't do it for me.

Cat = the best.

GeorgeTH 11-22-2003 10:17 PM

Yep - specially love the older ones! :thumbsup

HarlotCash Dyker 11-23-2003 01:17 AM

It's unusual to her non Brits talking highly of British alt comedy -
Me thinks some of the shows mentioned here will still be bloody funny several years from now:thumbsup

[Rick is taping a green plastic bag over Neil's torso]

MIKE: That's a bit extreme, isn't it? Won't he suffocate in there?
VYVYAN: Very probably, Michael. But we've got to keep the bogeys off the wall. [leaves]

NEIL: [sneezes] Oh, wow! It's really horrible in here. Why did you have to use Rick's laundry bag?

RICK: Oh, well, there's gratitude for you! It's me who's going to have snotty undies for the next two terms, Neil. It's me they're going to be calling "Bogey Bum". Especially at the next Friends of Stalin Society "Show Your Bottom" competition.

VYVYAN: [comes back with a duffle bag] I'm afraid I couldn't find any needles, so we'll have to use 6-inch nails.

RICK: Vyvyan, you can't do acupuncture with 6-inch nails.

VYVYAN: Ok, Neil. I am now going to insert the first nail. You may feel a bit of a prick.

NEIL: So what's new?

VYVYAN: OK, here it goes.

[hammers a nail into the top of Neil's nead]

Nathan 11-23-2003 03:39 AM

Aren't there more than 4 Series of Red Dwarf? I thought there were like 8 or something?

play.com only has 1-4

The Cat is the best.... "I'm gonna get you little fissshyyyy"

Well, and Rimmer of course... heck.. they are all great..

Even the Computer is fun <G> ....

Paul Markham 11-23-2003 03:44 AM

The early series were the best, seemed to have run out of ideas towards the latter end.

But the first and second series are great. Also get the "Fools and Horses" DVDs.

agree...much like the simpsons series. the last red dwarf series with the new (female) crew member was so lame it was painful to watch. they should have done what young ones & fawlty towers did...step down after you've done your best work.

Sarah_Jayne 11-23-2003 05:17 AM

are they actually doing the highly rumoured movie?

Bake 11-23-2003 05:27 AM

That makes as much since as flicking a Lion in the love spuds with a wet towel

Bake 11-23-2003 05:31 AM

Fav episode Rimer world

Project-Shadow 11-23-2003 05:39 AM

Fan Smegin Tastic :)

Tipsy 11-23-2003 06:23 AM

I was trying to find a decent definition of smeg (ie smegma) and came up with this...

Definition for: smegma.
If you really want to know, it's the build-up of gunk when you don't wash your uncut roscoe.

Far better than the best I could do which was cock cheese.

I've always wondered if the top people at the TV company ever knew the true meaning :)

Sarah_Jayne 11-23-2003 06:26 AM

a few years ago the BBC ran a special Red Dwarf night and they showed a documentry on Red Dwarf's popularity around the world. There was one scene when Craig Charles was taking questions at a convention in the States. A little girl raised her hand and asked him what smeg meant and he almost fell out of his chair.

Its cold outside,
There's no kind of atmosphere,
I'm all alone,
More or less.
Let me fly,
Far away from here,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

I want to lie,
Shipwrecked and comotoase,
Drinking fresh,
Mango juice,
Goldfish shoals,
Nibbling at my toes,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun,
Fun, fun, fun,
In the sun, sun, sun.

Cindyff 11-23-2003 09:42 AM

They made 4 series then Craig Charles got into some sort of trouble so the 5th series was delayed about a year then when it can back it lost a lot of its spontaneity.

But a very funny series all the same.

Smeeeeg heeeead

damn you, that song gets stuck in my head if I even think about it!

Also, it is worth noting that Craig Charles was cleared of those troubles.

Greg B 11-23-2003 11:44 AM

I just saw an episode called "Justice" where they found a frozen being in a cryogenics coffin and brought it back to a prison ship that was an automated justice system.

FREAKIN FUNNY!
