Come on England!

Because I am in Canada I have had to wait up till 4am.

I think they can win, maybe they can even score a try!

Anyone else getting ready to watch?

I've never understood what that song has to do with Rugby. Do you know? Does any English person know?

Very few unofficial anthems every have much to do with the sport per se. The best explaination I've read is...

It has it's origins in the North of England, where the Miners and unionists used to sing it to show solidarity with the US slaves, who were thought to sing this Hymn. From their it made it's way to singing at football matches.

Sounds like it could be total bollocks but yet to hear a better one. The point is pretty moot though. Whatever the origins it's now been heavily embraced by England supporters and has (in England) come to represent our rugby team. How it started matters little now :)

Actually, that is about the best reason I've heard so far.

I suppose Waltzing Matilda or Fields of Athenry have little to do with Rugby as well.

come on! fuck yeah!!! swing low...

BRISK 11-22-2003 01:50 AM

Why are opening and closing ceremonies always so incredible crappy?

josipk 11-22-2003 02:01 AM

I'm from australia and I want england to win.

if australia wins they will kill us all with the TV they wil show how the aussies won the world cup every 5 minutes for the week to come.

Same with swimming and any other sport when they win something they don't know when it's enough they just show the same shit all the time on the news and every series online.

Odin88 11-22-2003 02:02 AM

Let's Go Aussie!

That is possible the worst reason for wanting a team to win that I've ever heard.

josipk 11-22-2003 02:17 AM

well it might sound stupid but if you lived here you would know what I'm talking about.

Dosen't matter wht happens around the world if they win at something that is the main story in news which I can understand for a day but not for a week to be shown on tv.

When they win it's constantly in news updates and they have updates here every 30 minutes and it's always on.

Trust me you would go nuts if you were here when they win something.

heymatty 11-22-2003 03:06 AM

Nice first half.

We actually scored a try which is nice :)

BRISK 11-22-2003 03:09 AM

It's looking grim for Australia :(

We gave the second half away - fucking idiots. Even with the previous mistakes we should never have given away a penalty with 2 mins to go.

Sarah_Jayne 11-22-2003 03:57 AM

*tears hair out* come on!
