Carrie 11-21-2003 11:38 PM

The first would look so much better without the pickup truck in it.
The second is too cool for words... to actually see the earth spinning by the movement of the stars... :thumbsup

These are totally real, and really (well.. reliatively) easy to do.
The earth rotates of course, and so the stars rise and set too.

If you're in the northern hemisphere, it's easy. Point your camera at the north star, open it up for about 1 / 1+1/2 hours on say 5.6 or f8, depending on 100 or 200 film (if you're using 400, shoot 30 mins or so and expect nasty grain)

In the north, the northern star is the center of roation.

In the southern hemisphere, face south, and angle your camera the number of degrees that you are in latitude.
Ie, brisbane is like 29.7°, so angle it up about 30° and you'll be ok

In that example, you've got a mix of the lights of the southern lights, the stars andthe little tents.

it's fuycknig cool.

from ADN.com .... The northern lights were very active Wednesday night and Thursday morning. This photograph was taken looking northwest in Girdwood at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. The sunspot activity has been high recently, and another brilliant show is expected across much of Alaska tonight, weather permitting.

Some of mine from Riverfire this year, taken from the southern approach to the bridge.. Canon A-1, Fugji superia 100ISO, 28mm lens. I'd kill for an EOS-300D and some lenses :)
First pic is the F-111's going past on afterburners, second is the dump & burn.

It's the first time I've played with slide film, mainly I use C-41 and B&W stuff, and I haven't had time to get rid of the lens flares etc, so be nice :)
