The pissing contest over what is tougher is kind of tired.
My brother-in-law played tight end for the University of Texas. He also played rugby there. Rugby definetly results in a lot more blood and broken bones. Rugby also demands a much higher fitness level. They are very different in the type of toughness. Here is an example. - Go ram your head into a wall as hard as you can. - Now put on a helmet and ram the same wall as hard as you can. With the pads on you can hit harder. Chances are it didn't hurt with the helmet on, but you were a lot more likely to put a hole in the wall with the helmet. It hurts the other guy less when you hit him in the pads, but the velocity is higher. It would be interesting to see Warren Sapp or Ricky Williams as ruggers. |
it'd be cool if some of those huge NFL dudes played rugby...until the US started winning :)
