Dental treatment....

If you had to go to a Dentist and get a filling done how much would it cost you?

I went today and got one filling done and it cost me $100. I was in his room 5 minutes and thats how much they charged me

I got to go back next week for another two and thats costing another $160. Do you guys pay crazy amounts?

Ross 11-20-2003 03:32 PM

Damn dude thats a shit load. I know someone who paid $5K to have all his teeth repaired just so he could get them whitened.

I don't plan on having to go to often. I hate the Dentist! I got a tooth chipped playing football (soccer)

Hey, I just had a filling a few weeks ago, but it was a composite filling (the new white fillings, not the old mercury amalgalm silver ones) and it cost me
$75, also hurt like hell, made my teeth really sensitive and could not chew on it for over a week!

I have a dental plan with Blue Cross,
it's HMO, but it's still so expensive. The dentist's office quoted me $475 for a crown. Is this a normal price with insurance? I thought insurance was to make it cheaper! Has anyone noticed the prices they get quoted at the dentist is NOT the same as the one in the booklets they send you with all the fees and on their website?

If anyone's had a crown, how much did you pay for it?

Ross 11-20-2003 03:35 PM

Well I dunno about crowns but I do know they are a shit load of cash!

Shouldn't insurance pay everything?

I have HMO with Blue Cross, maybe I just picked the wrong plan?? If I'm supposed to pay $475 I don't know wtf Blue Cross is paying... That reminds me, I have to go call them right now...

has anybody tried the painless cavity filling process that some dentists do now?..it is off the hook..i had 4 cavaties filled about 2 years ago, no shots or anything... they use air to sort of sandblast the cavity and then put the filling in, no drilling.

Ross 11-20-2003 03:41 PM

I had drilling but to be honest I didn't feel a thing. Maybe coz I paid this time? Last time I had to get anything I was still at skool and all students get free dental care. It was torture

This time tho I swear I would go back no problem. he jagged my gum twice so I wouldn't feel anything. BRILLIANT!

Did u get a white filling or a silver one? My dentist says that he doesn't even do silver ones anymore, only white ones. And the white ones are amazing, he drilled it for LESS than a minute, I am not kidding. It was over in a minute. When I had the silver ones when I was younger it took much longer.

This is a stupid question but I'm ignorant when it comes to insurance, but is HMO actually insurance or no? Blue Cross only has HMO or PPO plans, is that good enough or should I buy like private insurance?

Anyone have success or failure stories regarding a bridge or implants. I'm planning on getting one of the two and it worries the fuck out of me.

I can give ya both on both. (Does that make sense?) Plan on paying out the ass for implants, especially if it's more than one unit or if it's very involved. How many teeth? If you're planning on implants, make damn sure you've got a top-notch dentist who specializes in implants. I've seen botched implant jobs that ended up costing patients $14k+ just to repair the damages.
$75 was a decent price on the composite filling. Insurance doesn't cover very much on those because they're considered cosmetic.
As for amalgam fillings (silver), they're still safe to get. Only years ago did they contain mercury. They no longer do.
