Lensman said leave Jupiter Hosting

In his XBIZ interview (part two) Lensman said "if you're paying more then $60.00 for a megabit of hosting, wherever you are, you should leave".

Well, draw your own conclusions. :winkwink:

Lensman 11-19-2003 04:07 PM

Nice thread title. If it wasn't from someone with a hosting provider in their sig, than I would think it was funny.

You will not pay more than $60 a megabit if you're a Jupiter Hosting customer.

If you're paying more than that with JH for BW only, then you should contact a rep. Remember to remove server and support costs, I was talking about pure BW.

DamageX 11-19-2003 04:14 PM

Lens, not looking to spam my sig or anything, it's a friend's company and I'm doing him a favour by flying it. Look at the time I joined and my postcount and you're realize I'm not a sig whore. :D

I was, however, stating the obvious, given the fact that I checked out Jupiter Hosting yesterday, looking for a 10Mbit server, and the BW alone was $700. You said don't pay more than $60/Mbit. Time to update the prices on JH's hompage, or is the $60/Mbit only for those who don't bargain? :)

angelsofporn 11-19-2003 04:17 PM

i could use another box

Jimbo 11-19-2003 04:27 PM

60$ a megabit is 20 cents a gig?

SleazyDream 11-19-2003 04:31 PM

when you say a megabit do you mean MBpS transfer at 90th perentile billing or one megabit of transfer?

Tons of offers for allot less than $60/mbit some even as low as $25/mbit

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumd...?s=&forumid=36

bigdaddy187 11-19-2003 07:48 PM

I don't really care if it is 5 bucks a mbit, doesn't everything come down to support and satisfaction? I personally host with national-net and I know If I have an issue someone will be working on it in a timely manner. And that is what makes me happy.

My 2 cents

Shap 11-19-2003 08:04 PM

Wow that's great. Not too long ago when I worked out my contract Ray said $80 was the lowest he could go (And that was for a decent sized order of bandwidth). I guess I signed on with a company that was lying right off the bat. Just Great!

Shap 11-19-2003 08:09 PM

I'm honestly thinking, Why should I stay with Jupiter when they've already lied straight to me? How can I trust anything they say now?

Hmmmm :feels-hot

BW costs keep coming down, if you're higher, then I'm sure they'll lower it. Support costs a lot, especially with Silicon Valley level of quality. Some guys have greater support needs, so I'm sure the price reflects it. But I don't know what your deal with them is at all, but I'm sure it's a good one.

Jamie 11-19-2003 09:06 PM

People seem to get confused, $60 for an unmanaged server is reasonable. $60 for a 100% managed dedicated server, 24x7 support, and putting up with your every whime doesn't make sense. Unless you want Cogent, then I'll sell you $60 a meg with Dedicated. :thumbsup

Matt_WildCash 11-19-2003 09:07 PM

I'm paying $166 per megabit on one of my servers. LOL

I'm paying $25 per megbit on my new hosting servers though. Just saving up some money to move off the $166 bullshit price. We don't get much bandwidth at that but its where our program is hosted and so needs to be top notch quality.

makefuckingmoney 11-19-2003 09:08 PM

I hate paying server rentals..

I guess thats why I moved a bunch of crap to rackshack..

When I signed up for my Cell Phone I had a pretty good monthly rate with usage at the time I signed up. Naturally I had a year contract with em. I was happy!!

But then 5 months later my wife went to T-Moblie as well, got a very similar usage package as I did, and it was cheaper!! Naturally she signed a year contract!!

Well my year contract was up last summer. I went in demanding that I get the same deal my wife did, and told them how I was pissed how 5 months later she was able to get it sooo much cheaper than me..

Well in the end I ended up getting even more minutes than my old plan and my wife's combined and at an even cheaper rate!!

The moral of the story is, I wasnt getting ripped off.. Its the nature of the biz.. What someone signs up for one month isnt going to be the same 4 months down the road..

The naure of the biz evoloves. As bandwith gets cheaper and cheaper, and as the company gets bigger and bigger the price comes down..

No one is getting ripped off and for anyone who wants to come to Jupiter they arent qoing to find a better deal anywhere for the quality. And for those of you who signed contracts a few months back, at the time you werent going to find a better deal than that anywhere. And when you renew the same will apply and you will get the best deal possible at that time..

We've all seen the prices in our cell phone plans drop year after year as we renew our contracts... Well the bandwith biz is the same. At an even faster rate.

No one is getting ripped off. I mean are you really upset with your rate? Shit its sooo fucking low already, and its just getting lower.

You should be happy.

This is the answer to nearly everybody's hosting bitches for the last 5 years. Good answer.

Maybe its time to break out server rental & support from Bandwith cost so we can really compare.

Hosting is all about comfort! Do you goto sleep at night knowing if your server goes down someone does something about it?

A bright future.

That's a good deal, what do you mean same as Jupiter? Who are the providers? Which datacenter? Exchange?

Jupiter Charges $7999 per month but includes 2 servers which can be built for around $800 each.

fris 11-20-2003 07:34 AM

we are .18 cents a gig at the united layer data center check sig.

alexa is hosted there.

Good deal bro..
Unlike most the people posting bitching here on this thread, i knew you were a legitmate webmaster and a customer and not some hosting company like most the people posting here bashing.

Im glad you got fixed up bro.
I knew you would.

harvey 11-20-2003 03:06 PM

we've a new box at Jupiter and it looks pretty solid so far. we're going to put it to work heavily :Graucho soon, but knowing the size of our upcoming project, we wanted something reliable and trustable, not something cheaper we'd have to move in 1 month. There are a few options that fit the glove, and Jupiter is one of those :thumbsup

Ross 11-20-2003 03:50 PM

Things move on all the time. BW gets cheaper, every just has to keep bugging there server support for cheaper prices. I have one of th ebest hosting deals around so I am very happy with that

For anyone wondering who with. ISPrime baby!

... hmmm, we got 4 servers at your end and do pay ~ $ 500 for that (3 Mbit bandwith). we do own the servers. so at jupiter's support cost more than bandwith ???

rackspace: $100
bandwith: $180
support: $220

total: $500

You have to buy large ammounts to get it cheap. Buying less than 100 mbit is not worth it. If you want to get cheap bandwidith from He.net you need to go through a reseller that already has a GigE.
