Spam me with nice dogs

I might wanna get a dog, I have a bigger house now and it seems nice to get a foorlegged friend.

My checklist:
- it should not smell too much, some dogs are the worst
- no dog that dribbles (dictionary.com) a lot
- not too big or aggresive, not too small either, I want a dog, not a cat
- not a dog that barks whole day or thinks he is a wolf by night
- should be short-haired

I like several dogs already, but the ones I like best are not starter's dogs, I never had a dog, so I can not have one that is difficult.

- Jesus Christ - 11-16-2003 08:11 AM

My dog is a walking fart with 7 inch toenails.

I'll give you 10$ to take it.

Dude, this one is top of my list, has been for years, BUT not easy for a starter like me. I even joined a forum last year about the babies, the coolest, but a no-no for me :/

They have a dog that is like this one, but a little easier, a Vizla.

raceman 11-16-2003 08:21 AM

I agree "Weimaraners" are a wonderfull dog, my friend had one for years, if i was to get another dog myself I'd have "Weimaraner".

One other dog you might wanna look at is a Bernese Mountain dog, I had one and he was great at pulling chicks, but I have to say he had bad taste "he he he he he"

RACEMAN :thumbsup

Lab of any type. Barking is non-existant with them, good large dog, great with kids, very independant but love their owner :)

Here's a test you can do, very nice. I did not like the outcome though, lol
http://www.pedigree.com.au/select/

I'll have a look at the other suggestions.

About the labs, I agree they are cool too. My old neighbour was a dog freak, he had a few of them, he also had a chesapeak (?), looks like a lab, very nice dog as well.

TheFLY 11-16-2003 08:39 AM

Weimaraners are great pets!!!

sonomasnap 11-16-2003 10:46 AM

I am a dog fanatic. Had 5 when I lived in the mountains of Colorado. My next dog will be a Portugeuse Water Dog. They don't shed, are very smart, friendly and athletic. Check out the link I provided. It is on The American Kennel Club site which will have tons of info on this breed and hundreds more.

Good Luck

Jack Russell Terrier, Kind of small but the greatest dogs I ever had.

LadyMischief 11-16-2003 11:05 AM

Bouviers are amazing dogs. I don't think I've met a smarter breed yet.

I have 2 of them, they are great dogs but ours do what yours is doing in the photo, look out the window and bark at anything that moves...but still a great smart dog.

Beagle or Bassett Hound. Great dogs, very good natured, low maintenance.

Randy 11-16-2003 11:28 AM

Don't laugh

My roomate and I got this dog and I was not all that excited at first. But I have to say it was the best dog I have ever had. Fearless, smart and funny, and would hold its own to any dog at the dog park.

http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/pembrok.cfm

The are bigger then they appear! Just have shorter legs but clean and no dog smell! Really great companion dog!

Why do you keep saying it's not a good "starter" dog? If you can't handle one dog you can't handle the next.

evildick 11-16-2003 11:59 AM

I've got a friend that sells American Bulldogs as estate guardians and therapy dogs.

http://www.11-peaks.com

He's an international show judge. Give him a call. He'll hook you up.

PersianKitty 11-16-2003 12:11 PM

How small is too small?

I have a Shih Tzu. Larger of the small breeds. She's about 18 lbs. Very much people oriented, very smart (don't they all say that), one of several dogs that are supposed to be good for people with allergies...

People told me, plus I have actually read a lot about dogs the past year.

TomsPics, that dog looks great. Do they bark a lot always?

My downstairs neighbour has aHuski who sits out side on the balcony all day, very nice and quiet dog. Those were my favorites few years back. I'm trying to find one that really suits me.

PK, nice dog, but I want a dog that is a little 'manly', I have to walk it you know:winkwink:

If you want a friendly, intelligent, protective, laid back dog get a lab.

Edit: And I don't know what you've been reading but having a dog isn't that huge of an ordeal. Just get a dog you like, you'll be fine.

I've been reading "club's" websites, as well as the average resource sites. I think you are right though.

Maybe I'll just end up going to the kennel and get one of the sorry ass dogs that are left by their boss or something like that. I'll decide the next few months what I am going to do, I want it to be a well thought through decision.

TomsPics 11-16-2003 01:36 PM

Naughty, mine don't bark a lot but these dogs can if not trained properly. There very active dogs so I wouldn't recommend getting on if your never home. They can be very stubborn and annoying. But if you get them as a pup and put proper manners on them there great.

More information on these kids of dogs here:

I work from home, so that wouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

I just saw one on a dutch website, somebody found a 6 year old Parson Jack Russel Terrier. Very nice and I emailed the finder, I might get that doggie. I'd rather 'save' oner dog than get a puppy.
