People are cocky. Bars close way too early. Its cold. Its rains way too much. |
forget it Oracle, your tcg checks wont cover it
|
Yes it's expensive, but the UK rocks.. the girls are slutty and easy to fuck.. the beer rocks (Guinness, John Smith, etc.) and the countryside is awesome..
I wouldn't want to live there, but I visit it at least 3 times a year.. |

I'd say you need atleast 4-5k month Quote:

Nightlife is v good
I would say you could live alright on £2k ($3-4k) per month. It seems to me like about 90% of the people in this country are complete fucking pricks. As long as you choose a good place you should be alright, some places are violent and not good places to be at night time. |
this country has been nothing but friendly to me as an imigrant. Yes, grumping and complainging is a national sport amongst some people but you get that everywhere. I love that people in this country is never too far away from cracking a joke at their own expense.

As a cosmopolitan country, it has been influenced by the traditions of most countries - Which means, that the Uk is much like any other country with few differences of note -
It is a lot more expensive than the USA - But that stands to reason as would expect to pay more for a Rolls Royce than a Mini - |
come to the netherlands. weed is legalized here.

Taxes in Holland are higher than the UK cost of living is probably around the same, I've lived in both. People may be cocky, but the Dutch aren't all great, half of them are seriously godly, and it seems that a high % are always envious of what other people have. Its warmer and it rains less than Holland. But fuck the UK anyway, move to Spain cheap as hell the girls are great, the sun shines and beer is $2 for 6 bottles. |

May I suggest Italy? Rome is fucking cool, birds are beautiful,
alcohol is cheap and is warm pretty much all year. :glugglug |
Lived in the UK all my life and I must say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
The south coast is the most affluent, and most expensive, but you gets what you pay for. Up north it's cheaper but the cities tend to be a bit run down and industrial. Get out of the cities and the countryside is nice. London is great for nightlife but a bit of a rat race and very expensive. Only place I would like to live outside the UK is north Sydney in Aus, up where they film Home and Away. Now that is a fucking lovely place:thumbsup (exeprt for the spiders) Been all over the world and the Carribean is nice, but for a holiday only. In Europe Prague is great, as is Amsterdam and Copenhagen. Been to the USA numerous times, and its so bloddy cheap, the people seem friendly enough but no the place has no culture at all. I was in Boston and the taxi driver pointed out a building and said it was two hundred years old. My home here is over 400 years old! Another thing is of course you haven't got to learn another language, but whereever you go, how are you going to stay very long? 6 months working visa? Illegal immigrant? |
As a brit, best thing I ever did was leave the place!
I will only ever go back to see family and friends. Come to Asia Oracle, the girls are nicer, beer is cheaper and this is only touching the surface. GFY doesn't have a big enough DB for me to write all the reasons why Asia is better than the UK. |
UK is definitley more expensive than the US. And its fucking cold! Italy is great!

My husband was the main reason I came here but now even if we split up (which I am pretty sure we never will do) I would want to stay here. Some of the reasons - A sense of world perspective: - Yes there are people just like in the States and elsewhere that are insular but it is a lot less common. Most people atleast have a working knowledge of international geography. This is particuarly the case in London, where I live. - The news reports things that happen in the rest of the world in the main bulliten even if there wasn't a British person involved. Mind you, if there is a British person involved it moves up the list. Whimsy - - This country largely knows when to take things seriously and when to take the piss out of them. |
(i'm an idiot and hit submit reply too soon)
- Even people that most people consider to be pompus will suddenly show whimsy. For example, last week I went to the lord mayor's show and all the lords, etc had hand puppets on and were teasing the kids. Other stuff - - Mother logic - no one is too big for a hiding. If you are big and rich but do something really dumb you will hear about it. That can backfire when they don't like people getting too big..something that can tick me off at times. There are other things but those are the ones I thought of right away. Please note that I still love the States and there are LOTS of things I miss about it and would like to have here. Just this country has been kind to me and taken care of me when I needed it. |
sarah_webinc, there are 1000s reasons to pick UK as a country to live. For me soccer and rock music are enough :)
I asked because from his post he gave me the impression of not knowing much things about UK. Obviously though some things attrack him and making him want to move there. |
Like most places, some parts are shit, some parts are good...
