U.S. clears Bristol-Myers chewable contraceptive

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. regulators said Friday the approved the first chewable oral contraceptive for women, a spearmint-flavored tablet made by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.

The product, called Ovcon 35, contains progestin and estrogen, the hormones used in standard birth control pills to prevent pregnancy, the Food and Drug Administration said.

They are working on a shot at the moment, probably will be mass available in a couple to a few years.
