it's distinctive. MB started the trend with the S class that came out several years ago, and nowadays every freakin' Benz model looks alike. BMW is just pulling in a different, more extravagant direction with their designs. Look at Audi, the design that was once considered ugly (the A6 with the weird butt), is now to be found on every model.

i agree,new BMW are shit, 7series is the ultimate crap. Previous one is much better looking.

weird is that those rims look exactly like the ones used on the M5 prototype I drove in this past summer in Germany.

(1) mb *never* goes out on a limb in terms of design. they don't need to. other than their supercars.

(2) audi builds reasonably beautiful cars. you can't compare audi with the garbage bmw is putting out.

it's hilarious going to check out the bmw dealer these days - their entire lot is literally covered with Z4's. all option and color combos, not a problem lol. one UGLY ass machine.

You gotta admit that the design of the S class back in what... 96/97 was a quantum leap compared to the bulky ass design that they had used in the years prior to that.

Hey, those BMWs are gonna sell no matter what. So why not do something that will make your cars look distinctive?

I have the feeling that most companies' designs go into the same direction anyway. Soon you won't be able to tell many of them apart.

like i said previously, all of us have different tastes. i personally find the Z4 one of the ugliest cars built today. same goes with the new 7 series. Z4 takes the cake though.

those bmw's aren't selling (the Z4's). they are filling up the dealerships on expected sales, but are no where to be seen on the streets.

I think the best looking BMW is the current shape M3, drives beautifully as well.

7 series is pretty ugly, but I recently saw a carbon black 760il with 21inch wheels, valued at about $400kAU, now that looked nice.

I've driven the current 745i, for a car that big it feels pretty light and nimble. Looks funny, but still a very nice car to drive, idrive is a bit stupid though.

V10 M5 looks like a lot of fun ;-)

THe new 5 series was launched here a few weeks ago, looked better in the pictures, I was a bit disapointed when I saw it in the flesh.

The new 6 series is butt ugly too, new X3 looks ok, but its just a squashed down X5.

Too late, have you seen the new pics of the M4? They were posted on here a couple months ago.

When the new 3 series comes out it is going to be sedans only, and all the coupes will be badged as 4 series with a slightly different shape, kind of like c class and clk class.

I've read an M3 might remain as a higher powered sedan, but the M3 as we know it, will become the M4. It looks good, but the current shape is nicer.

Apparently the 1 series is coming out next year as well.

The Cayenne is of course the better car, Im just comparing the looks, the body! I prefer the VW, I dont like the front of the Cayenne, it has a great ass though ;-)

there's no way bmw would build a car like that, the weight distribution doesn't look even close to 50/50 - they way they strive to make every single car the design acheive.

actually uhm... I'm pretty sure vw built the cayenne and porsche assisted. they're the same car except vw put their v6 and w8 engines in and porsche put their turbo flat 6 in. sorry. :-)

also - the vw w8 is expected to go into the 70k range while the w12 version will reach into the 85k range.

the phaeton which will have a v6, w8, and w12 version is expected to come up to that price point as well. even the w8 passat is going for as much as a 540i now.

The new z4 I like personally, a friend of mine has one, it handles amazingly well. The upcoming M4, imo, looks great too, same basic lines as the current 3-coupe but a bit more streamlined.

Personally, I love the Z cars. However the Z in that picture is not a prototype. It's someone's dream manifested in "CG". Those pics have been floating around the bmw boards for awhile now. Some love it, some hate it. Personally, I think it looks like a Z on roids from mars... (translation, i like it.):winkwink:
