Las Vegas residents, I need you to recommend something
I'm going to be having a barbecue with some of my neighbors and I want to find a really good butcher in the area. I don't want to go to Smiths or Vons, I want to go to a real, honest-to-goodness butcher with big slabs of meat and links of hand-made kielbasa. If you know of a really good shop in the area, please let me know here or write to me at AVS Weasel.com. I don't mind paying a little more for a good product, just point me in the right direction.

I used to visit one on Sunset and 215...It's just past the freeway entrance going east. I forgot the name of it, but i haven't been there in over a year. I'm not sure if it's still there, but if you're in the area, take a look. :)
I wish I could be more helpful, but I've given up and I just get my meat at Albertsons. :1orglaugh |

Check out your smaller meat markets in the area. Dont discount the larger stores either sometimes they hire very good butcher and you can the cut you want by asking the right person.

Great question...I'd love to hear the answer to that question. We've only been out here a little over two months and haven't run across such a place yet.

This is for the one or two others who expressed interest in finding a butcher shop in the Las Vegas area:
I paid a visit to Larry's today. I like it. It's not the traditional butcher shop I was looking for with a fat guy in a white apron covered in blood stains but the store was very clean and had a great selection of beef and pork. The people who were serving customers were pretty young but friendly enough and quick. The prices were decent (I paid $3.99/lb for London Broil and $2.something for smoked Polish sausage). The cuts all looked good and I had no problem getting a 3lb chunk of the London Broil. I did not see any chicken, just beef and pork, but the store did carry about a billion seasonings and sauces. Overall, I give Larry a thumbs-up and will probably be going back for more. I am still going to keep an eye out for more meat shops because I want to find someone who carries kielbasa and pierogi. Until then, Larry's will do. How to get there: From the Strip/Downtown or south of the city: Take the 515/95 north to Valley View, get off and take a left. Larry's Quality Western Meats is about one or two minutes down the road on the right-hand side. SpaceAce |

Mexican meat markets are pretty good too, I've got a lot of chicken, pork and beef from this one place over on Decatur (between flamingo and tropicana).
They even have pre-marinated meats that are real good for the grill. If you want any fresh fish, I'd suggest hitting up the little chinatown area ranch 99 market. Pretty fresh stuff over there. |
