M U H L E N B E R G T O W N S H I P, Pa. ? Prom-goers have been known to look for creative ways to escort their dates to the big dance: Limousines, horse-drawn carriages, sports cars, or even helicopters.
Police say Brian Njau chose to carjack a 2000 tan Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Njau, 18, is accused of stealing the SUV at gunpoint Friday so he could drive his date to the prom that night.

The Holy Name High School senior allegedly walked up to elementary school teacher Stacey Stoudt, pulled out a BB gun modified to look like a real pistol, and demanded she get out of her Suzuki.

"The male opened the door, brandished a handgun and demanded she relinquish the keys," said Spring Township Police Patrolman Jarrod Chappell.



Njau hopped in and drove off slowly, apparently having trouble with the manual transmission, police said.

"I don't have credit, so I couldn't like, borrow [rent] a car. I wasn't thinking straight," he told The Associated Press from jail.

"I was going to take the car back first thing Saturday morning, and just park it there," he said.

The car was recovered the next morning in the parking lot of a nearby Ramada hotel.

In the back seat was a gray tuxedo vest, a woman's shawl, several picture frames with "Holy Name High School Prom" engraved on them, and a camera with film still in it, which police developed.

"They found pictures of the kids from the prom from the night before," said Chappell.

Njau was identified from the pictures and arrested at his home, authorities said.

"I was kind of stressed out," he added, citing pressure from his girlfriend not to be late.

He was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, harassment, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possessing an instrument of crime, possession of a weapon on school property, robbery of a motor vehicle, and disorderly conduct.
