Acacia says files lawsuit against hotel video provider

Acacia says files lawsuit against On Command

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Acacia Research Corp. (nasdaq: ACTG - news - people), which licenses digital video and audio technology, said on Thursday it filed a lawsuit against On Command Corp. (nasdaq: ACTG - news - people), alleging the provider of video entertainment and information services to hotels infringed its patents.

Newport Beach, California-based Acacia said it had filed its suit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

"We believe they use our technology," said Paul Ryan, chief executive of Acacia. "We believe they need a license from us."

Denver-based On Command said it had no comment on the lawsuit.

Hopefully this company is willing to join the fight!

Fight The Patent, have you contacted them and let them know about the war?

i think this is a good thing.

think about how many hotels that company services.

all those hotels will pull their contracts if the cost of providing in room movies goes up. which means, at this point, if this company gets behind the anti-acacia movement, then all of those hotels are somewhat indirectly behind the movement...

hilton... marriott.... holiday inn... the list goes on

the more lawsuits the better.

the price of thier stock is dropping daily.... it was a very well timed press release in one of the NET's worst concieved pump and dump schemes that is Acacia.

This is not true, their stock has held itself fairly stable for a few weeks. This new law suit may actually make it jump up. These hotels will wimp out and settle just for the ease of not having to get into a long drawn out court battle. :2 cents: :2 cents:

Acacia has also targeted schools and universities:

Seton Hall University
Capella University
DeVry University
Easter Michigan University

These are the ones to hit the news, but in an Acacia PR somewhere, i read hundreds of universities were sent notices.

Academia is aware of my website... doing a search in google for patent related keywords leads you fightthepatent.com :Graucho

Also lots of hits from .edu in the weblogs

.....

These schools love to train their students in real world scenarios..
A group of paralegal graduates will research this fiasco and probably turn Acacia into a parking lot..

Afterall.. it was just such a group that had a man on death row released due to their research as a class project..

Never uderestimate a class project with a determined group of students on a mission..

Acacia knows how to work the press releases to try to keep the stock prices of their various companies up.

If the IMPA would learn to use press releases as well as Acacia uses them, the stock would be at $1 a share right now.
