What Were Your Dumb Noobie Mistakes?
 

When I first stated in the industry, I spent a day trying to change the words underneath my name on GFY. It really bothered me that "I was probably spamming."

too many to name...biggest one was thinking adult marketing was the same as mainstream marketing

my dumb noob mistake was busting my ass to make some cash
then when the cash started rolling in I slacked off big time

it was hell trying to catch up again

When I first started writing HTML I would forget to put border=0 on the img src. All my pictures would have a box around them, took me a bit to figure that one out.

The other was I would close my HTML tags by putting the / after the tag. FONT/ B/

The good fun days of not having a clue how the Internet worked :)

Man I use to type out everything....Yes then one day someone said Hold down Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V.....OMG I had like 2 more hours in my day.

For a long time I thought AdultLegal were lawyers for the adult industry...

My first website had 250 free pictures then I got it listed on PersianKitty. I learned how expensive bandwidth was then.

I used to build galleries and free sites. It was a complete waste of time.

My dumb ass mistake was thinking the hun was a small website lol!!! boy o boy

my biggest mistake was it, that i thought i can earn the big bucks right from the beginning. but i'd learned fast, that it is hard work to earn good cash.

that I've spend more than I've made ...

I 'acquired' some html code I wanted to emulate a lil, and totally did not even know or think to mess with those things called meta tags & crap...turned out they had some of PK's terms in them, and she sent me a nice, to the point 'get bent I'm not listing you' email, of course I profusely apologized, removed the offending html on one of my gallery pages and never was that careless again...

this was, uhm, I wanna say around 98ish when I had my first site put up on sexysites.com freehosting....getting a link on PK and Boogie's Console Free zone used to make my day....hell still would!... I love da hits....




I think if I say Boogie one more time he might show up...




that's about it...oh another newbie mistake I made, was not whipping out paysites or a solid 'one site to be known for' type of thing way back...and sticking with it... biggggg mistake....

Uploading pictures in ASCII mode.

Making thumbnails to really be 80x80 rather than forcing 1000x1000 picture to 80x80.

Learning to organize my server so all my HTML and pictures are not in the same directory.

Not buying one word domains back in 1996 and devoting most of my time and energy to DMOZ listings 2-3 years ago.

I was to scared to talk to anyon at my first trade show.

It took me a few dadys to figure out how to login to GFY. What instructions? :-)

Similar here. I saw somebody has "woman in a man's body" and thought it was way cooler than mine being "am i allowed to speak", and did ask them how to change to theirs. :1orglaugh

I didn't know how to use Explorer, when I bought my pc it has aol pre-installed and came with a free yr of AOL, so I thought AOL was the only way to get on-line :uhoh

Also took a long time for me to figure out how to copy and paste...

Umm... didn't know to save html files as .html I was saving them as .txt so I would have a page with html gibberish.

Umm... thought ftp was too complicated to learn, preferred using a "file manager" from freehosts :1orglaugh

Was VERY PC illiterate, didn't know how to copy images from one folder to another, so I was using Thumbnailer to move images from one folder to another .

Also there wasa time when I didnt know how to make thumbs, my thumgs were the bigger pic loaded at a smaller dimensions. And I was making each thumb this way manually in Netscape Composer one by one.

It was pretty bad at first :helpme

Probably deciding to upload a new index page to one of my websites while drunk. It was 12 hours later until I realized that I had uploaded the wrong fucking page !! I lost a lot of traffic that day :glugglug

mine was making quick $ then slacking off.
its a bitch to start over.

-Buying domain names for $70.00 from Network Solutions.
-Not keeping a backup on my system.
-Spending hours trying to figure out why my html was not showing up, when I forgot to close the title tag!
-ordering a dedicated server for 700$ a month, and thinking I could learn how to run it if I bought "Linux for dummies"
-Thinking Corel Draw was the future of web graphics, and ignoring Photoshop

Not hosting on a Linux based machine.

when we made our first entire free site in 1996, we not only gave away too much content, but our site was ENORMOUS and almost impossible to navigate :)

Hanging out on chat boards. Very unproductive.
