adventures in model recruiting

Went to the mall last night, kinda risky with the security, but I thought I'd roll the dice and hand out some business cards. Girl #1 reacted fairly well, didn't really ask any questions, and I walked away fairly quickly after handing her the card and introducing myself.

Girl #2 on the other hand, was a total bitch, and she tried to rip into me. Conversation went like this:

Me: Hey, just thought I'd introduce myself... I'm Noah, and I'm a photographer. If you're ever interested in modeling, give me a call.

Girl: Oh, I've seen this shit before. So you want me to be your hooker?

Me: No, I never said I wanted you to be my hooker!

Girl: Okay, so let me get this straight... you want me to pay you $2,000 to take pictures of me??

Me: No, we would pay you.

Girl: Ohhh, okay... so this is porn right?

Me: It is adult photography.

Girl: Well I'm NOT interested.

So I kinda got off to a rough start. There is quite a learning curve to this end of the business :)

Were you dressed in a pimp outfit? If not, thats what you were doing wrong.

xenigo 11-12-2003 01:29 PM

I was wearing blue jeans and a fleece jacket.

Maybe it's different when you're approaching models, but you need to learn how to work people better. People are much more accepting and open when you are giving them genuine compliments and show real interest in them.

Go to Office Depot or any book store and pick up a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. That book will make you more money than any seminar.

You think THAT was bad? Damn dude - you should be in sales for awhile. I was in telemarketing for 6 months. Now THAT is a place where you can truly say you get reemed.

You got your first no. Not even a HARD no. You got a nice one - where you could walk away and easily go to the next person unscathed.

Keep going man, and remember that a no shouldn't hurt you. Only a bitchslap and nut kick will. :)

Try complimenting them before you pitch them. Say, hey, you look very attractive. Have you ever considered doing any modelling? Then smooze into the pitch. Your approach comes off as a guy hitting on the girl and hoping she'll call you. Be more relaxed and make the girl feel comfortable around you before trying to close her.

Why not get a girl to recruit girls? :2 cents:

sweetcuties 11-12-2003 02:00 PM

I usted to be where you are right now... it's all a #'s game. Talk to 10 girls, 1 or 2 will call or be interested. Once you have a few, place ads. Oh yea, like someone said... get a girl to do your work.

Dawgy 11-12-2003 02:01 PM

noah, i will tell you my secret for getting models...

"hey bitch, youre hot. wanna get naked?"

goBigtime 11-12-2003 02:02 PM

Have hot looking, confident, evil women recriut for you :)... or at least bring one with you to break the ice & remove the idea from the potential models heads that you are just hitting on them or trying to get into their pants.

If you have a girl with you that's hotter than the potential model... she'll probably be put into low confidence mode & welcome your "Heeeey you look pretty hot... you ever think about doing any modeling?"

How much of a factor is my outfit when I'm talking to these girls? My dad was saying I should probably dress like a million bucks, or else they're gonna think I'm not serious.

I guess I need the Porsche 911, a Rolex, and a sportcoat and slacks with Armani shoes to really make an impression with these extremely superficial chicks.

Superficial? Perhaps some are, but it's really about the safety factor.

If some ratty-looking woman came up to you and said "I'm a professional dick-sizer... I'll pay you $200 to pull it out and measure it", would you trust her, or would you be worried about her cutting off your dick?

If a well kept woman in nice looking business attire came up to you and said "Excuse me, I work for XYZ and we're conducting a study on penis sizes. You caught my eye; we will pay you $200 if you'll allow me to measure your manliness", would you be more likely to go along with it? If so, is it because you're superficial, or just cautious when it comes to strangers wanting to see you in the buff?

I told you, the pimp outfit is crucial

Dirty F 11-12-2003 03:50 PM

I found out the best way is to talk to girls in clubs and bars.
And ALWAYS start with implying that they already did modelling work before!

"hey how are you doing. can i ask you something? I guess you did modelling work before?" and from there continue.

Dirty F 11-12-2003 03:51 PM

I asked quite some girls the last 12 months and not one was rude to me. Actually, alot of them gave their phone number right away.

PerfectionGirls 11-12-2003 03:52 PM

Heres the key to successfull recruting... don't try to recruit.

Hate to say it, but that one works!

I used to do web maintenace for a guy who was the ultimate model recruiter...I mean, he'd pay the girls, but he got women that should've been wayyy out of his league and he always did the best when I was with him as the "assistant" holding the camera crap, checking girls in, etc. Not that I'm any hot shit, but I'm attractive enough and "normal" enough where it gave him more credibility.... and, of course, I got several all-expense paid trips to South Beach out of it.

I learned lots of ways to recruit great talent so if you need more info, just let me know. Most of it is pretty straight forward and honest... things I'm sure many people do... but ya gotta be the one to take it one step further:)

Cheers!
