Nod. I still smoke. So does my wife. We smoke outside. I can understand their argument to a degree with smoke 'wafting' in. However. Inside my own home?

uh, fuck that.

I had a boss once who rode his bike to work everday along the 101 and / or the 5. And he gave me shit every day because I smoked. No amount of telling him would get him to understand he was being just as abusive to his lungs by riding in traffic..in fact probably more so the way the lungs work.

/me contemplates that move to canada again...

Police state 11-10-2003 11:18 PM

That is fucked up, when I signed my lease for my apartment, it stated that I could get second hand smoke - that there is cigerette smoke and other chemicals in the air!

If California follows through with this, I'm gonna fucking leave this piece of shit state! It's might right to walk in my area and smoke, not my right to walk into somebody else's apartment and smoke! Fuck Cali!

I was fine with resturaunts, thats cool. Bars? Well....when I do have the occasional pint, i like to have a smoke. Except in certain bars, I have to go outside. Ok, whatever. Now I cannot even GO OUTSIDE! What happens if that bar is by an apartment?

Another bill pending in the Legislature for the second time would increase the minimum smoking age from 18 to 21. The bill stalled last year as lawmakers struggled with the realization that they needed money from the tobacco tax to help close the state's budget shortfall.
:1orglaugh :1orglaugh That's right bastards! Need our tax money!

Yea it's pretty fucked up! I can't stand California anymore! And apartments are gonna have a problem if it is passed, how many people, might move out. Hell if it happened where I'm staying now, it's a breach of contract, because the lease I signed said something else, so I'll just move out fork over the extra money for a house and live in my house! :Graucho

Close your windows. Or move. Your choice. Just like its his choice to smoke.

I used to smoke and I am not into being regulated inside my own home but objectively it has been proven that second hand smoke kills people so if imagine if your next door neighbour pumped out a nice mist of toxic gas once an hour in your direction - I guess that would be fine then?

just a thought.

smoking sucks - it's hard to quit I have empathy for both sides - most of us get suckered into smoking when we are young and it's proven that cigarettes were developed as a vehicle for nicatone.

eheh. Calm down kid. All you have to do is walk your fatass, nicotine-craving self about a block out to the main road to smoke. LOL. :1orglaugh I'm not the idiot who uses a product that's clearly LABELED: if you use this, you will die of lung cancer and/or heart disease. How does it feel to have no self-control?

Non-smoker here and I know this is a sensitive issue for both sides. For years my (now) ex bitched and made scenes at restaurants about the smoke wafting into non-smoking, etc.. or seating too close to the smoking area. Tons of restaurants in the Seattle area are now non-smoking. No different than hotels/motels having non-smoking rooms.

Myself.. I'm extremely sensitive to smoke of any kind. One breath tightens my lungs up pretty bad - any major irritation to my lungs starts my asthma up. Even sitting in traffic at a light somewhere with my A/C on and windows closed, I've smelled cig smoke from the guy 2 and 3 cars behind with his cig out the window (what is that btw.. ..so the smoke doesn't get in the car??!!).

The other thing smokers find it hard to believe is that everything in their body smells like cigs. I mean everything.. only once did I blow a guy who smoked. But if someone else wants to ....more power to them. I would guess a woman who smoked pussy would taste like cigs too.

Anyway.. it sounds more and more like this country is going to have stricter policies about places to smoke. Wonder when/if it's against the law? They write tickets for smoking where you're not supposed to?

Yep, and the fines vary. This was done partially in Boulder, CO and in other places. I'm waiting for the 'you cannot drive here' in the middle of the city due to car exhaust....never happen, at least to a broad degree, but still.

If someone asks me to move or put out my smoke because it bothers them, I usually do it. Except if I'm at an outside patio at a resturaunt or bar. Your're an idiot to even think of asking me to put it out there.

johnbosh 11-11-2003 02:13 AM

smokers can do less and less, happy that I don't smoke

Rich 11-11-2003 01:18 PM

"trying to control what people are allowed to do in their own homes is an Orwellian nightmare come true"

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't mind not smoking in restaurants, I mean only assholes like smoking in front of kids. I disagree with not being allowed to smoke in pool halls and bars, which is the current law up here, but I can live with that. I don't live in an apartment, but if I did, no way in hell would I not smoke in it. The cops had better come ready for a gunfight if they think they're going to tell me what to do in my own home.

Gemini 11-11-2003 01:32 PM

Apt complex owners re saving some big bucks on insurance when they can get non smokers in whole buildings. Considering cigarettes and idiots with 12 extension cords in one receptacle are usually the reason a building burns down.

Now if they ONLY had an extension cord patrol!! :Graucho
