the only thing I'm good at at home is filet or porterhouse on the grill.
If that suits you, stop by any time.

Not a ton, really considering how good it is.
Probably 150 retail if you can find it.

sweet.......

i've found some really nice wines in the $100 price range recently...

wine is weird though - you can spend $100's and get a horrible bottle or much less and get a good one. to me it's kinda a crap shoot and it's best and easiest to just bring someone to dinner with you that has a clue about wine!!!!

hmmm ....

ever tried a "Barrolo" ?

GoGoBar 11-09-2003 02:31 PM

Speaking of food... I finally got my hands (err mouth) on a kobe steak Fri night at Speechio at the Borgata in atlantic city. Very unique and tasty flavor. Definately worth the $300 :) (48oz porterhouse for 2)

As far as wine. There's only one wine I've ever had that I enjoyed. Had it at Picasso out in vegas. I have the name somewhere, I'll have to find it. I'm a big champagne fan but really don't like wine.

Penn E. Less 11-09-2003 03:10 PM

We just picked up a case of wine yesterday from Vyneyard Crest winery here in Pennsylvania. I'm going to enjoy a bottle a bit later :winkwink:

You paid US$300 for a steak for two people?

That's hilarious.

I'm sure they are... but at $300 I hope he got a blowjob with that.

Yeah, I've had Aldo Conterno Gran Bussia '95
it was ok. I might even still have a bottle in my cellar somewhere.
Italian reds have never done it for me though.

I like Ice Wine. HOmemade wine is the best I think :)

TheFLY 11-10-2003 08:13 AM

There's a couple of places in town here that serve this stuff called "Smoking Loon"... Inexpensive and tasty... The cork is really bizarre -- there's a subliminal message on it :) I tried the Shiraz and the Merlot and I like the Merlot better which is unusual -- I love it when wine has kindof a dark chalky texture that strips the saliva from the insides of your mouth so you can lick around your gums and taste all that mad flavor after a big sloshy sip :Graucho Mmmm....

I was under the impression that true kobe beef was not available in north america, something about not exporting to other countries anymore...is this true, anyone? cuz if it is i'll be pissed, cuz i really would love to try it without having to fly half way around the world

i was psyched for about 3 months after seeing a special on this stuff and figured it would be a good thing to try, really not my flavour though, ended up hating it, the best way i can describe it is that it tastes sorta like a wine syrup, not my kinda bottle

Hustler DJ 11-10-2003 08:54 AM

Yeah, suggested retail on that Shafer is $150 according to a friend of mine in the biz -- but you're right. Good fuckin' luck finding it -- the '99 came out a couple months ago, and was basically sold out to mailing list people and selected retail. Nice work on finding it, 12clicks!! You're one fortunate bastard!! :thumbsup :thumbsup

It's killing me that I can't remember the name of the Cab I just had for my birthday... was from a winery up on Diamond Mtn. that I hadn't actually heard of (rolled the dice, hit it big). Will pass it along when I get it -- *amazing* bottle for like $100 in a restaurant, so probably get it for $50ish at retail...

Phoenix 11-10-2003 09:02 AM

im just now getting into wine.

white wines were easy..but the red ones will take some time to get used to.

i like a reisling so far in white

and i have tried various merlots and shiraz's...but i still have yet to find a red i like

course i dont sped 150 per bottle though..could have something to do with it.

i do have a couple of nice bottles of red from Bulgaria though.

wrapped in leather..very cool looking

you have no idea *HOW* lucky.
There's a restaraunt near me selling wine at like 10 bucks over retail. Opus, Shafer, caymus, cakebread, cardinal, heitz, haut brion, and a ton more. wine list is about 200 wines deep.

200 wines deep and only 10 bucks over retail, this place must have a hell of a turn out.
p.s. - whats the name of the place?

theharvman 11-10-2003 12:26 PM

oddly enough, their clientel isn't a wine one.
I'd say that *I* alone am their biggest consumer of top shelf wines.
Its like my own fucking personal cellar.
and the food is always good. not great but never disappointing

If you want REALLY good wine, try 4 Aces. Only 4 bucks a bottle. A couple of quarts of that gets you so drunk you'll wet the bed.
