Secondary processors - join right away?

I'm filling out my Visa application for a site processor right now and am wondering when I should sign-up with a secondary. I have every intention of doing so, just not sure if it would be worth its while right now when my site is just getting started. I'm using Epoch as primary and will probably use CCBill as secondary.

For starting out, I was even thinking of using Verotel as the secondary processor just so that I have one up and running. I don't trust them as primary and long term though.

What do you think? With low volume transactions would it be cost efficient to shell out another $750 for a secondary? Should I just use Verotel? Or should I just avoid secondary until I build my volume a bit? And if I do choose to wait, what volume of transactions should I use as a benchmark to setup the secondary?

Ummmm...........Sly, if it was me, I wouldn't go with the above, Probilling..........they dodge questions & are a little outfit

do a search on this board on them to see what many webmasters think of them.........you'll see what I am talking about

I doubt if they will last a year from now

i wouldn't go for a secondary processor at all, if your going to do cascade billing, that is bacially like taking off the scrub for sign ups and sure it will get more sign ups.. but they will be the sign ups you don't want, that are known to charge back.. they get denied for a reason, not just because the processor hates you

I'm not sure I agree with this 100%. I do agree that the processor is doing the scrub and if the client goes to the secondary processor it could end up in a charge back or whatever.

HOWEVER, leaving all your eggs in one basket isn't the smartest thing either. Since everybody seems to be staying with sponsored merchants and your customers really aren't yours, if something were to happen to one of the processors, you won't be getting your customers (most likely). I've had this happen to me in the past and at least I had 50% of my money coming in to keep me in business.

You may want to consider using a 50/50 script that divides clients up equally among processors.

Don't go with probilling, they will be all friendly with you and then when your sales start to slip they will drop you, they still owe me thousands of dollars. they said they will give me my money in 6 months time. DONT GO WITH PROBILLING.
