naming images for SEO

How important is naming an image for SEO?

i.e. using the keyword you want as the image names.

Text is better, but if your site is mostly graphical, then you definitely should use these in conjunction with meta tags to allow spiders to get some kind of idea what your site is about.

Does teh same hold true for naming pages?

i.e. http://www.yoursite.com/keyword_1.html
http://www.yoursite.com/keyword_2.html

Most of the page code is parsed out.

Go search for something and see how many results you get where the term isn't actually on the page anywhere, but is instead an image's name. It just doesn't happen.

thanks, I knew it helped alittle but wasn't sure if it mattered much - especially to big sites.
