Steve Easton and his beloved company "APIC" were supposed to shut down following a lack of financial support from its members. Anybody know if they are gone or going down soon? I wanna throw a party once its official :glugglug

APICv was an organisation fighting piracy over a decade ago. Many of the big sites and sponsors of 1998 - 2002 hated Steve Easton the guy who ran APIC. For chasing them for pirating. That's how a lot of the "Bros" started out.

Seems a guy like him is even more needed today.

Domain > Whois > Ask content copyright owner if he had sold the license to the site > Send a DMCA or not.

Many of the copyright holders who joined APIC were never selling content to others online. Penthouse, Suze Randall, Steve Hicks, etc.

I used to get his copies of emails where he was "brute forcing" his way to getting my content removed from piracy sites. He was fairly thorough. All you needed to do was send your hosting company a copy of the license that proved you owned the right to publish the content and everything was fine.

You could of sued him if you wanted to.

I contacted so many of the sites that were pirating my content and asked them if they wanted to buy the license to use my content on their sites. The response was silence.

That's the way online porn started and the way for most it will end.

He caught me doing what? He cried and ignored my licenses and I never had any actual trouble over it. That just proves what I'm saying. He wasn't that effective. He wasted time, and wasted his clients money chasing their own customers. If I had purchased your content for example, I'd have never purchased from you again after that. You probably lost customers and didn't even realize it. :thumbsup

By the time I opened the store he was well aware of me selling content and very wary of chasing anyone with my content.

They weren't members of APIC. 10 years ago there were few content providers and fewer had joined APIC.
