The growth of the Adult.com Maui Dev Shop
the first arrival of the new FireWire Farm.....
http://www.ampiezza.com/stuff/firefarm.jpg the shipment of harddrives is flying in tomorrow. All minimum 120 gig, in removeable trays, in a chained FireWire Farm...... sometimes being #1 sucks..... sometimes it's so sweet it brings a tear to the old hardened eye. here's a pic of my beach for those that don't appreciate infinite expansion. http://www.ampiezza.com/stuff/maui.jpg |

IBM DRIVES ARE *PURE SHIT* Just be sure you save the boxes they come in... actually, you might as well request they are shipped in individual boxes. IBM's RMA return policy requires them to be shipped in drive boxes -- and trust that you will be returing them for RMA at some point. I don't have any IBM drives now that HAVEN'T gone trhough the RMA process - most have been through twice or more now. So in closing, :321GFY IBM HARD DRIVES. For that matter, their Thinkpads suck too. They have been using the same buggy trackpoint components for the past 10 years or so. |

I've been driven to meet the standards and demands of one of, if not the, largest and most successful adult players in the biz. This happened out of sheer necessity. The need to keep up withthe rest of the team. I've dumped a ton of money into new gear to keep up. This is only a qwik pic of the first delivery which came early. I think I'm coming again..... |
looking good :thumbsup

Dude.. with you in HI, the RMA shipping alone (that comes out of your pocket - deduction or not) should be enough to keep you away. Go Seagate, Go WD... hell even Maxtor... but NEVER IBM for hard drives. They couldn't even handle their own warranty repair stuff anymore on their drives... they had to contract it out to some other company. Hitatchi maybe? I forgot. I don't even bother sending them back anymore... they go straight to the shitcan anymore. |

I have never had an IBM or Wester Digital hard drive go out on me. EVER.
knock on wood |
I've used tons of drives... and seen even more in use in friends hosting businesses.
I've never had a HD fail on me OTHER THAN IBM's ;) /me gets wood & knocks on it. Drives aren't supposed to be disposable. I once heard that IBM's response to those drives were "They weren't intended to be on all the time" or something to that effect. :1orglaugh |

Long as I can continue to get full credit off on my taxes, I give a damn. |
Note to self....Bring an extra suitcase to smuggle AMP's new firewire system out of his house.

amp's right, when you're running a good raid 5 setup or something like that, just as well go cheap and large.
i've been looking at dropping some samsungs in a machine because they're ultra cheap. i've been very lucky with hard drives, not one of my _personal_ hard drives has ever died. *knock on wood*. hard drives are a poor storage media in general. if you have raid 5, just swap them when they die and move on with life. for as cheap as you can pick up a samsung 160gb, 12 months is plenty of use out of it. |

maybe its the newer ibm drives that fuck up easy, god knows i put mine through hell and back :glugglug |
