Russia offers Giant Air tanker to assist w/ forest fires... USA "No Thanks"
THE AIRPLANE MIGHT INTERFERE WITH THE LAWS BUSH AND CO. WANT PASSED TO ALLOW INCREASED LOGGING BY GREEDY JEWS.
Frankly, I'm outraged," says Robinson. "This has been going on over six years. The Forest Service has refused to allow this plane into this country for fire fighting. It's a modern aircraft, a four-engine jet. It covers an area the size of 12 football fields with one 10-second drop [of liquid v water or retardant]. It puts a fireline down 300 feet wide and 3,900 feet long in 10 seconds. It would have saved every community in Colorado and Arizona this year. It would have saved those 300 homes in Los Alamos two years ago." Robinson said that two years ago during the Cerro Grande fire near Los Alamos, EMERCOM had two planes sitting on the runway in Moscow, fully crewed, each plane having three eight-man crews, ready to take off. They had been requested by FEMA, but at the last minute, FEMA told them they weren't needed after all. The Associated Press reported that then-District IX FEMA director Buddy Young went to the fire and publicly announced, "You will not bring the Russian planes in here: We're not having any Russians coming here and fighting our fires." |

Who cares? They didn't want our help when they had a submarine resting at the bottom of the ocean full of Russian sailors.
|
Sounds American like :)
I wonder if these planes are so good though, why doesn't the US have its own version? These aircraft sound so large that I wonder if they land/takeoff on most runways... WG |
Oh, that's why I heard it all over the news: logging, logging, logging... Why don't we just cut the Bushs?

Damn cant you all go attack one of the other board dweebs besides each other?
Few simple things to consider since I guess there are not california people arguing about this, or people who do not understand forest fires. The fire is about the size of Rhode island, it will take a bit to gain control no matter what. Pull out a map and think about that. Politics are just an easy excuse that sells news. If it honestly would help it would be here. The president has zero to do with it and Grey Davis has nothing to loose politically. There is no way to refill the plane after its initial drop. Assuming you trucked it in, the time and man power wasted would out do what several small planes would accomplish in the lost time. The plane is way to big to make the proper fast desent into a canyon and pull out before crashing and making matters worse. If it is droped by a higher altitude it will vaporish and just fuel the fire. Language barriers and comand issues between the CDF air command and ground captains and the pilots would also make these types of flights dangerous to all air craft in use over the fires and firefighters on the ground. |

If it were up to me you and your buddies the earth firsters, seirra club and the elf would be paying to fight these fires. I would not be suprised if the elf did not have a hand in starting these fires. Arson seems to be their tool of choice. :BangBang: |

It was all over the radio news in Vancouver, Canada yesterday that the Forest Fire Fighting Centre (or whatever it's called) has NOT received any serious inquiries from the United States regarding any aircraft, although we have plenty that would be helpful.
Food for thought. |
More food for thought:
http://www.news1130.com/cp/Internati...9034?stat=ckwx "Officials turned down request to help fight beetle infestation as fires began October 30, 2003 - 7:25 pm SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Just as the Southern California wildfires were beginning late last week, the federal government quietly turned down a six-month-old emergency request by Gov. Gray Davis for help in removing dead and dying trees in the same forests now being consumed by flame. In April, Davis asked for a federal emergency declaration in three counties where bark beetle infestation had left huge swaths of dense woodland vulnerable to fire. If approved, the presidential proclamation would have paved the way for millions of dollars in federal support for clearing dead trees in San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. " |
personally, i am not very fond of the idea of Russians (or any other country) coming into America with a huge plane that they can fill with liquid and dispense onto us from the air. Seems just a little risky from several standpoints.

Are you still stuck in the Cold-War era? |
Hey if you American rather have half of california burned down instead of anyone helping guess so be it. I am only sorry about the poor souls who lost their lives already and the many more who lost their homes and never had a say if or if not others should help..

And by the way smart ass - the Cold war era was "A state of rivalry and tension between two factions, groups, or individuals that stops short of open, violent confrontation." so basically during that time, NO VIOLENCE occured- so wtf does that have to do with what i'm talking about? |
Lets just let Californa burn-down completely because Myjah is too paranoid.

You seem to want to refuse any external help to assist in fighting the fires in California. So, please define "precautions". |
