Robinson said that two years ago during the Cerro Grande fire near Los Alamos, EMERCOM had two planes sitting on the runway in Moscow, fully crewed, each plane having three eight-man crews, ready to take off. They had been requested by FEMA, but at the last minute, FEMA told them they weren't needed after all.

The Associated Press reported that then-District IX FEMA director Buddy Young went to the fire and publicly announced, "You will not bring the Russian planes in here: We're not having any Russians coming here and fighting our fires."

Who cares? They didn't want our help when they had a submarine resting at the bottom of the ocean full of Russian sailors.

They are logistical nightmares. Personally way up north in california where mountain wildfires are very common. We use a great number of air support vehicles. They must be able to take off and land on very small runways. Not to mention one other tiny issue, airports do not have the water to fill this damn things. Hence the reason for use of so many helicopters and small planes. It is so they can fill up via lakes, swimming pools ect.

Russia probably did not want Usa's help becuase it was a submarine, what country would want potential enemy to access their submarine. These two things are completely different.

Few simple things to consider since I guess there are not california people arguing about this, or people who do not understand forest fires.

The fire is about the size of Rhode island, it will take a bit to gain control no matter what. Pull out a map and think about that.

Politics are just an easy excuse that sells news. If it honestly would help it would be here. The president has zero to do with it and Grey Davis has nothing to loose politically.

There is no way to refill the plane after its initial drop. Assuming you trucked it in, the time and man power wasted would out do what several small planes would accomplish in the lost time.

The plane is way to big to make the proper fast desent into a canyon and pull out before crashing and making matters worse. If it is droped by a higher altitude it will vaporish and just fuel the fire.

Language barriers and comand issues between the CDF air command and ground captains and the pilots would also make these types of flights dangerous to all air craft in use over the fires and firefighters on the ground.

Yet another moron who completely missed the point.

Without the greedy jews there would be a loss of millions of jobs.

If it were up to me you and your buddies the earth firsters, seirra club and the elf would be paying to fight these fires.

I would not be suprised if the elf did not have a hand in starting
these fires. Arson seems to be their tool of choice.

It wasn't "Russia" .. It was one man, and the Russians were incredibly pissed at him for handling the matter the way he did..

It was all over the radio news in Vancouver, Canada yesterday that the Forest Fire Fighting Centre (or whatever it's called) has NOT received any serious inquiries from the United States regarding any aircraft, although we have plenty that would be helpful.
