Why Visa Is Dropping Online Gambling

Last comes the morality issue. Although they usually deny it, many credit card executives want to have nothing to do with Internet gambling. They often, unfairly, lump gambling in with pornography.

There was a bill that would make it illegal to use a credit card for online gambling...I do not know if it passed both houses of Congress and/or it was signed into law...or if it was signed into law when it was to take effect.

couldn't find a more 'official' link. The law is actually for all types of funds:

The House voted Tuesday to exempt American gambling operations from legislation that would ban gamblers from using credit cards, checks or electronic fund transfers at illegal offshore Internet casinos

VISA is not banning it.....specific issuers in specific jurisdictions are. There is a big difference. When it comes to internet porn, the revenues to the VISA association are tiny, reletive to all of their business, but the headaches are HUGE.

In the case of gaming, the problems to VISA are quite small.....the only real issues are for the some of the issueing banks, due to public perception, and laws that pertain to the banking regulators in their incorporated countries.

ouch
that sucks

i love this quote - like pornography is the WORST thing ever and gambling is much better. how many people have lost their house to pornography? maybe a few, but thousands have to gambling.

but somehow it is unfair to link sweet inoffensive gambling with evil porn. jeez!

Wow I guess we should be thankful. Sorry to all those affiliate programs.

Isn't there someone from Referback that's a member on GFY? Would be good to hear something about this from the casino affiliate programs.

well right now the whole situation is a big mess.
In most European countries advertising gambling sites is illegal, so I cannot buy PPC traffic from google.fr or Overture Germany for example.

In the states the goverment is doing the opposite - they are banning players from playing, but in the same time you can buy gambling keywords and advertising without problems.

VISA sucks - that's not new. But there will always be alternative payment Methods. The credit card problem is not new either. The casino I was working for had a 4% success rate for credit card purchases. But the players already know that, and the casinos try to push them and educate the players to use alternative payment methods by offering extra bonus, faster payments etc.
