Israeli Processor Computes at Speed of Light
Interesting...
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ael_lenslet_dc An Israeli start-up has developed a processor that uses optics instead of silicon, enabling it to compute at the speed of light, the company said. |
cool ... I remember something about AMD or intel working on something like it recently though ...
|
The processor performs 8 trillion operations per second, equivalent to a super-computer and 1,000 times faster than standard processors, with 256 lasers performing computations at light speed.
Wow, those are impressive numbers. |
I've seen lots of people talking about similar stuff as well. I saw Cisco was working into completely optical routers, so signals wouldn't have to be converted from optics to electricity to be routed.
This stuff is just getting nuts. |

i have a flashlight that produces beams at the speed of light.
pretty high tech. |
That's way cool, I didn't think there would be a huge technological leap like that for a while...

this isn't as fast, not even close, but it's the fastest "PC" available and I think it's pretty cool: http://www.apple.com/powermac/
