Fuck... I'm finally back!

What a week... and it still isn't over.

Last Friday and Saturday we spent all day moving into our new place. A sweet ass house decked out with lots of goodies. For some reason now all of our friends think they're moving in too. Anyway, we finally finished moving and setting up Saturday night.

Sunday rolls around and the news is going crazy with fire reports. I'm parked in front of the computer and radio keeping an eye on the situation. I get a call from my roommate at work saying his parents just got evacuated from their house, they live not even 3 miles away. He's headed home from work, I call my other roomie at work and tell her to get home.

They get home and we start packing, after we just finished unpacking the day before! Blankets, extra clothes, money, radios, and any pawnable items were thrown into the cars. We hadn't been evacuated yet, but were prepared.

Around 5PM we hear a police car rolling down the street with sirens blaring. Time to go. All of our neighbors were packing in their cars. Hundreds of people in the streets loading up valuables and other important items. It was exactly like a scene from Independence Day.

The lease wasn't up on our old apartment, so we headed back there until we decided what we wanted to do. After an hour or so we left for a friends grandparents place and spent the night. Monday afternoon we drove by our place and everything was fine, neighbors were moving back in. We packed back up and came home. Shit did that feel good. Home, at last!

As the day went on, my chest cold got worse and worse. Most likely from the ash filled air. Yesterday morning I woke up, barely being able to breathe. I took a quick trip to the ER. Got a breathing treatment, and now all seems to be getting better.

One of my roommates is from Julian, her mom and sister still live there. We don't know the status of their house yet, but things don't look good. We may have some visitors for a while.

What a week. And it still isn't over! Fucking fires. We were one of the lucky ones, our house is still standing strong.

Big relief that your new place is still intact.
