Wisdom Teeth getting pulled

the dentist wants me to have my wisdom teeth(impacted) pulled.
Iv never had any pain or trouble with them,so im not sure if i should have it done.
would you get your wisdom teeth pulled if they dont bother you??
i just dont want to go through the pain and trouble.
Appointments in a few days,so i need to decide. :(

Better to get them pulled out before they start causing you problems and then you have to wait in pain before the dentist can schedule you in to get them removed.

Scott McD 10-29-2003 10:20 AM

I got 9 teeth out at once the other week. Getting the rest of the tops ones out soon. False all the way... :)

Here comes the 'british' jokes... :winkwink:

budz 10-29-2003 10:21 AM

pros:
4 less teeth to get cavities in
more space in back of mouth

cons:
4 teeth closer to toothless

nofx 10-29-2003 10:21 AM

had mine pulled about a year ago.
didnt hurt at all :thumbsup

rooster 10-29-2003 10:21 AM

not sure. Im kinda in the same situation I think. I havent been to the dentist in pretty long and am in my upper 20s and never had wisdom teeth out. As far as I know I either dont have them or they are impacted. Im in no pain, but I bet the dentist would say to do it.

KRL 10-29-2003 10:21 AM

Better to get them all done ahead of time and all at once. It hurts like hell for about 24 hours.

Good luck.

chrisp420 10-29-2003 10:26 AM

i got my 4 yanked.. few shots in the gums and its done.. id do it again

good side is prescription pills

have fun!

BradShaw 10-29-2003 10:28 AM

My fiancee just had them done monday. She is already back to yapping just like before;-)

fsfaz 10-29-2003 10:30 AM

Personally, I wouldn't get them removed unless they were hurting or making my teeth crooked.

I think dentists are as big as crooks as snake oil sales men.

I pulled my last 2 wisdom teeths a few hours ago. Both of them had cavities. It's better to take them out now, because they always cause problems and besides they are not useful at all when you eat.

Better do it now than later :thumbsup

NetRodent 10-29-2003 12:24 PM

Better to get them removed than to have them damage your back molars. When my wisdom teeth started to come in my dentist told me they were impacted and should have them out. They weren't hurting me so I ignored him. This coincided with the beginning of a four year period when I stopped visiting a dentist. During the next four years my bottom wisdom teeth started to grow in under my rear molars. Eventually one of my rear molars crumbled and I broke down and got my wisdom teeth pulled and the tooth rebuilt.

hyatla 10-29-2003 12:26 PM

Pull them when you absolutely need to. If they are ok now, let them be. Pulling teeth is so painful. :2 cents:

SexxxyChat-T 10-29-2003 12:40 PM

I got all 4 of mine out a few months ago. No pain at all during the procedure... then you get hopped up on the drugs afterwards so you are feeling good for like a week.

Only shitty thing is that its kinda hard to eat while your jaw is swollen. But hey, I got to look at my x-rays and I could see clearly that my wisdom teeth were coming in and pushing on the root of the tooth in front. Didn't hurt me at the time, but I didn't want to wait til it did.

LeeNoga 10-29-2003 12:58 PM

Pull them when you can afford to, and take your meds afterwards, you will love yourself down the road for having dealt with it now.

hottoddy 10-29-2003 01:11 PM

I had 4 impacted ones removed (hammered, splintered & chisled) at once and the aftermath sucked. I oozed blood for days, and my lower jaw swelled like Don Corleone's for weeks. It was a miserable experience. Fortunately I didn't get dry pockets.

Some people walk out and have a hamburger. Everyone's experience is different.

Ask for Percocets!

YEAHH FOR PERCOCETS!!

GET THEM PULLED!!!

I thought the same way as you "why get them pulled if they don't hurt" well.. 3 years later I am in mutherfuckign pain! My ear, sinus, jaw, two rows of teeth and neck are throbbing and most likely infected due to one wisdome tooth I should have had pulled. I am stuck taking antibiotics big enough to choke a fucking horse.

GET THEM PULLED!!

BlueDesignStudios 10-29-2003 01:34 PM

I had mine pulled out a month ago - it's basically 3-5 days of discomfort - just get it over and done with IMHO :glugglug

prepare for the worst breath of your life

Pay the extra cash for an oral surgeon and IV sedation. You can not imagine the difference in pain and suffering between the two. When you are under, they break the teeth slowly and pull them out piece by piece. Compare this to a dentist using a tool to wrench the tooh right out of your jaw in about 30 seconds. It's awful. I had 3 wisdom teeth removed via IV sedation, but left the fourth on the advice of both my dentist and oral surgeon. Less than 1 year later I had the fourth taken out so that I could wear braces. I thought, "Heck i'll just let the dentist pull it - the first 3 were easy." That one tooth hurt me more than all of the other 3 combined multiplied by a factor of 10. No joke. $250 for IV sedation and $250 per tooth is what it costs where I live. Oh yeah, they give you antibiotic and and anti-swelling agent in an IV at the surgeons. You get neither at the dentist's office - just nitrous and novocaine.

LOL

I had all four of mine yanked on Monday....this morning I went to workout ;)

I am the biggest puss EVER, hell I started bawling like a baby as soon as I walked into the room and saw the chair and tools. I still have about 25 vicodin, I havent taken one yet, maybe I can sell them on Ebay :Graucho I have taken a few advil here and there. I feel like a million bucks compared to the stories I had heard!! Dont listen to the horror stories, everyone is different.

:winkwink:

FTVGirls 10-29-2003 02:58 PM

I work as a dentist on weekdays; I recommend having them removed, the older you get, the more traumatic it will become for you to do it then -- and as someone suggested, best to get them out with an oral surgeon with IV sedation -- it will be a more comfortable experience, and the procedure will last less than 15 minutes.

Ohhhhh shitttttttt!! I didnt know that a regular dentist could do it. I thought it HAD to be a oral surgeon. I had a oral surgeon with the IV and all. Its the ONLY way to go!! Fu#$ that other way, it sounds like a miserable way to go!!

wizz 10-29-2003 03:01 PM

I think it's a good idea, you will avpid future problems :)

I had all 4 of mine taken out a few months ago, they were impacted like yours.

Get a good surgeon and do it under general is my advice :)

I had no post-op problems with the teeth themselves, although it's weird having a head that's near-numb for a few days.

Good luck mate :thumbsup

bogo 10-29-2003 04:53 PM

if i had a choice to either swim with the sharks,or go see the dentist,i would rather swim with the sharks.
i guess everyones had a diiferent experience, either good or bad,so hopefully mine wont be too rough since im going to be gassed.
its just the aftermath that im worried about.

anyways thanks to all the gfy docters and dentists :)
teeth are coming out!

BradShaw 10-29-2003 05:03 PM

Babe, be careful selling vicodin. I hear there are a few people who post in my threads who eat it like candy!

Definition

A dental disorder involving failure of a tooth to fully emerge through the gums.

hyatla 10-29-2003 05:55 PM

I started to think I met a bad dentist. Damn blue cross! :winkwink:

MonsterMike 10-29-2003 05:58 PM

Geez, I had mine (all 4) yanked about 2 months ago. A few weeks later one of the holes became infected and I had to go back and get a chunck of my gum taken out. Not fun!

Good luck!

HEARTBREAKER 10-29-2003 07:27 PM

yes...better to have it pulled than cause you so much pain!!!!:thumbsup
