How do people keep dying from the California fire?
Are people hiding in their homes or something?
|
Partly. Several got stuck in cars trying to leave. To understand how deaths happen, you really have to experience the Santa Ana winds at their worst. They can move a fire faster than you can run.

Dude, there's only been about 18 outta over 2000 burned down houses! Not bad! Really, not bad at all!

imagine a fire blowing past you faster than you can drive. this is a Santa Ana wind fire. there aint no mercy when you deal with the fury of flame. |
If you ever been in such a massive fire, you would know how fast it travels. It consumes all the air quickly and the smoke chokes you.Matter of seconds really to escape.I don't think those people knew the force of it.

There were some pretty serious fires here during the summer, local news interviewed this guy who almost got killed trying to save stuff out of his house, I cant remember what he said exactly, but it was something like, "I looked out the door and it was down the block, so I ran inside and started grabbing more sentimental stuff. Spent no more than 30 seconds... Ran out to my car and loaded it in my trunk, turned around and there was a wall of fire in my face".
Wind can be a bitch. |
