QUICK!! How do I play DVD's on my X-Box?

I have company over here and she brought some DVD's to watch...I put the dvd in the xbox and some japanese writing comes on....I sure hope I don't need an adapter..

Any quick tips?

is it a foreign dvd? you have to have the same region # as your dvd player for them to play..
