Shemp needs shots - good grief

Just got a letter from the Leukemia People (love that name)
that becasue my bone marrow was destroyed, all the immunities i had bulit up over the years have to be redone.

So i need the following shots:

diptheria
tetanus
polio
infuenza B
influenza X
strepto pneumonia
meningitis
hepatitis B
measles
mumps
reubella
etc

do they still give kids lollipops when they get their shots?

doober 10-28-2003 05:41 PM

wow that really sucks....
Hopefully you will get a nice blonde nurse with big boobies to offset the whole thing...maybe she will give you a lollipop too

:winkwink:

baddog 10-28-2003 05:41 PM

damn dude, you will be able to open a candy store afterwards if they do.

As always you will be in my thoughts. :thumbsup

BrettJ 10-28-2003 05:41 PM

They give little toys in lieu of suckers now sometimes. ;-) Might get a yo yo for all of those!! Then you will be able to communicate with juicy easier... Yo! Yo! Yo! lol

Whenever I take my kids for shots the doctor gives out crappy sugar free lollipops.

Good thinking doc, replace (kind of bad for you) sugar with cancer causing sugar substitutes. :)

clubsexy 10-28-2003 05:57 PM

Sorry to hear that Shemp. :(

Aussie Rebel 10-28-2003 06:06 PM

Keep ya chin up mate!! Nothing can keep the shemp down :thumbsup

Jamdin 10-28-2003 06:14 PM

Getting all those shots might be a bummer, Shemp, but you need most of them if not all to stay healthy. Good luck and don't forget to cough before you bend over ;)

Elli 10-28-2003 06:29 PM

Keep your chin up, Shemp! You know we're all rooting for you!

And make sure that's one lollipop for EACH shot, not just each visit! Don't let them shave ya. :)

mailman 10-28-2003 06:31 PM

JDog 10-28-2003 06:35 PM

RRRED 10-28-2003 06:52 PM

So why exactly do you have to get all this done? What happened to your bone marrow?

If you don't mind me asking :-/

LadyMischief 10-28-2003 06:57 PM

Ugh that's awful! I don't know about lolipops, but my kids got cute little stickers that said "behind this sticker is one great kid". Maybe they have a limited edition "behind this sticker is one great Shemp" version! Good luck hon!

Peaches 10-28-2003 07:01 PM

Dang Shemp - you're a walking epidemic just waiting to erupt. :thumbsup

My Dr. used to always give those big Saf-T-Pops with the string instead of a stick and they were really thick, big lollipops. When my son was 4, I started taking him to my old Dr. and they STILL had them there. :)

i had Leukemia and the only way i could survive was with a bone marrow transplant. so they destroy your old marrow with radiation, then give you a donors bone marrow.

pussyluver 10-28-2003 07:14 PM

Sorry man.

My doctor used to have a nurse that was built.. When ever she had to do something like draw four pints of blood for testing, she'd grab my arm and made sure I was distracted. She got married and moved away. Going to the doctor hasn't been the same since.

You know what was the harm she gave away a few feels and made what ever you had to go through easier.. Smart nurse if ya ask me.

Seriously though mate - Marie and I are thinking of you.

gornyhuy 10-28-2003 07:56 PM

If you want I can bring my little boy's teddy bear and security blanket that Grandma knitted! It stops him from crying within about 10 seconds after his shots... ! :winkwink:

man those things are brutal to a little 1 year old. 4 shots per visit, 2 in either thigh, in rapid succession. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM WWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

Congrats on beating the leukemia! Lifes rich tapestry eh?

DTK 10-28-2003 07:58 PM

Damn, Shemp! No fun :( Hope it all goes well

DirkG 10-28-2003 08:05 PM

Shemp, glad you are OK and still in good spirits at least. On an even better side. It looks like you are talking about 2 maybe 3 shots at the most 2 times seperated by a few months. Most of what you named are always combined together into one shot. My kids got most of those in the same visit. One shot in each leg. Then again 6 months later. Another one for you list is ChickenPox. I've had it twice, and you certainly dont want it again.
Once I was a kid. The second time a couple of years ago. Right after my divorce, one of the lowest points in my life, everything was going wrong so I decided to pick up my kids and go to mcdonalds. After about 30minutes I looked over at the kid sitting in the booth next to me and he was all broken out and pussie. First thing I thought was "Damn, with my luck I'll get the pox again". A short while later, I had them all over me at the age of 30. With as bad as I already felt from everything else, the added pain of the chickenpox really didnt matter much to me. I'm sure someone with a sound mind and not depressed to the point that you have stopped eating and dont get out of bed would find chicken pox extreamly uncomfortable.

4 shots, that what I ment. I knew it was something like that. But I am sure there was a time or two with only one shot in each leg.

Carrie 10-28-2003 08:16 PM

Shemp I've got to take my 5yr old to the doctor tomorrow afternoon for his last shot for the school year - I'll be thinking of ya.

And of course, I hope you get a REAL hot nurse :winkwink:

the Shemp 10-29-2003 12:06 AM

Thanks again everyone, im debating whether to do this or not.

Raven 10-29-2003 12:13 AM

You'd, of course, know better, Shemp.....with all the research you've done....

As one with a medical background, albeit paltry compared to those with whom you deal...the only recommendation I would make is to get them separate and spread them out...and make sure you feel pretty damned good on those days the shots are scheduled...

Also, there are some childhood diseases for which we become immune over the years...having been exposed to it for a sustained amount of time.....so...you may want to consider asking about which ones would be priority.....

What is the harm of getting a few shots? If you have to do it, DO IT. Feel comfort in the fact that you will have uno's full support.

Bansheelinks 10-29-2003 12:18 AM

Shemp,

you are one of the good ppl on this board.........I hope it goes well...........I had a friend die of leukemia when I was younger and it was terrible as he was struck down so young.......

good luck with the shots and all

if i was in your shoes i would only get

infuenza B
influenza X
strepto pneumonia

do some research on the rest and see if they are really worth the risk

cheers Rob
