Economic future of America due to offshoring of jobs...?

Do you think all these lost tech jobs moving to India or wherever will change the quality of the American lifestyle? Should I be buying property out of the USA?

doober 10-27-2003 06:58 PM

if you go through some jobs on monster.com for Technology related openings in Manhattan/NYC. a lot of them are makign it clear that they are paying offshore rates to candidates because "we'd like to employ americans but we must pay offshore rates", in other words, same rates some FOB fuck would get.

Jimmer 10-27-2003 10:55 PM

They have to compete, right?

Compete is the excuse CEO's use so they can hit their bonuses. Thirty years ago CEO's made 25 to 30 times what the avg worker made ,now they make 500x. How competitive is that?

The amount of tech jobs lost will never compete with the amount of manufacturing jobs lost because of NAFTA. That's what really fucked you guys (well except the CEO's and stock holders, they're doing ok).

If you tax people who use labor outside the U.S., then you risk other countries taxing products made in the U.S., so you could lose jobs that way (less exports).

By the year 2020 China will be the second biggest economy in the world. Something tells me it wont take them long (from that time) to surpass the USA both economically and militarily. USA is going nowhere but down :/

Let's be honest guys....

If you need a kick ass paysite developed and someone from the states can do it for $5000 for example and then outta nowhere BAM!! a design company comes on GFY from India (reputable company) and offers to do the same work in half the time for only $200.00.

Are you going to be patriotic or will you think about the bottom line and the money you'll save that can be used for other company building investments?

Come on guys, let's be HONEST with your answer!

America is increasingly becoming a service economy. Soon we'll all be working at McDonalds.

loverboy 10-28-2003 08:16 AM

US has its eye on Asia for its global outsourcing economy in the coming years, the fact that broadband internet has grown cheaper and accessible to others communities in the world.

why not go with cheaper price for the same quality of work. :thumbsup

Unfortuately it is not so simple as our governments have already owered trade barriers. The problem is countries with low wages.

Most to Mexico, I think the jobs we in Canada lost to the US equaled what you lost to us. Just think Mexico will not send any jobs north.

I work for a large multinational and I wouldn't say that they have the same quality parts looking at the crap I have to work with.
