Whats the best dating / personals script out there?
 

I see tons, randing from $34.99 to $19,000.

Something in php/mysql or perl to use on a freebsd box. Pay per contact and ad intensive because it will be free initially to see how many people will signup.

Custom is proablyy your best bet. Trying to find a reliable programmer is hard, you have a better chance of getting hit by a yellow school bus

thats the main dilema.. its starting out as an expirement, and I certainly trust simple scripts and engines from established companies over some idiot who is going to make a mess that will cost more to fix than start over.

good luck finding a good one best reccomendation is get a cheap one and a programm to modify it to what you need. I purchased two the first one sucked the second one worked but they would not send me the registration key and now the site is shut down

It's a solid script, from guys who know how to build a script that gets a lot use. The main problem with this script is your limited to about 10,000 users per catagory and they will not let you remove the copyright info. Other then that it works great.

Don't get me wrong, it looks GREAT. But I sure as hell won't pay $1500 for a script that gives the author a free link on every page.

I checked out the commerical version for $690.00. Looked really good, test to 8,000,000 profiles, video and chat.
So I signed up for a test account, the site will not accept postal codes only zip codes and requires a code. The video is simply an upload of a premade video. And the site had no internal email system, you give out the user icq or email address. The instant messenger seems to just be the chat system.

I hope they have a different verison with different features for $19,000.

No I haven't bought it yet, not sure I want to put that much money into something that may never make a dime for me hehehe, will let you know if I do.

I found a free one that seems ok and works with ibill for charging them for a profile, it also allows a trial signup period. The script seems simple on the admin side, has a decent layout to start off with and such but I had some problems with the install.php and had to manually do some mysql table entering, the script has some bugs to be worked out but for free its worth a shot:

I'm just looking to buy a good script or engine from an established company. Not looking to buy anyone else's sites or their databases or a fly-by-nighter.

I'm also looking for such a script which one do you reccomend?

I use WebScribble; nuff said, been looking for another one for a long time without much luck

My advice (aside from not running your own stuff and just promoting IwantU instead :1orglaugh ) is to get a custom job done.

If I understand your needs right, you want a pretty simple site to see how things go without any 'fancy' features right?

That amounts to little work for a good programmer, which should cost you less than buying a script and having someone modify its code for your needs.

Your core features should probably be:

- join
- browse/search
- contact/messagebox
- view profile
- edit profile
- content,ads, news,etc....

That comes to a few basic forms and simple database structure. A good programmer can do that for you quite easily I'd say :2 cents:

I got that script but haven't installed it yet because my tech guy says this script is badly written and loads a server with only 20 online users. I'm looking for something that can handle more than a 1,000 users...
