Its quite easy to generate a page rank of 4/5 on your own, its getting the higher page ranks that is harder.

Its a sliding scale a page rank of 10 isnt twice as good as a page rank of 5 its more like 1000 as good


so 6 isnt a little better that 5 its alot better

It a way google measures you link popularity, its not as it suggests your rank on a page. link popularity is one of the things google uses to help to determin placements

The theory is the more sites that link your site of a similar theme the more relevent it must be.

So a page (not site) with a link popularity of say 1 links to your page then this will give it a certain amount of points (lets say 1) but if your page links out it will loose its link popularity. This stops you just putting up 1ooo's of links to other sites, just to increase the link popularity of your site.

The best way to increase link popularity is to have all the incoming links going to your index page and all your outgoing links going from a links page, not your front page. The higher the link popularity of the pages that link to you the more points its worth to you.

Thats why it is worth buying domains with existing high link popularity (contary to popular belief)

It's true to an extent. If you have a site with 6 pages, it's impossible to get the max total PR for the whole site if you have outbound links. If you have an index linking to the 5 pages and each page links back to the index, you want the index to pass all possible PR from its backlinks to the other pages. If you link to alot of other sites you'll barely pass anything to your content pages and they, in turn don't have much to pass back to your index.

Your wrong, these are not my opinions these are facts I know. google algorithms are not guess work but exact mathematical equations, people are not sitting there manually judging PR's they are made on exact equations

Yes a 6 is a world apart from a 5 and a 7 is even further apart. You should be able to make a site with a 4 very easy, a five a little bit more thought, but 6 upwards it needs the correct linking structure, even by accident :)
