Frames generally don't work really well for search engines, if you don't know what you're doing.

say I use PHP instead of using frames, will it pass alot better on SEs? if not, does that mean that I should just recopy the code(for example, the left menu bar) on all the pages? |
to my knowlede, google is perfectly happy spidering .php files as well as .shtml files, so in that respect it doesn't matter if you use shtml or php to dynamically build portions of your site without using frames.
However, do be careful about using request parameters e.g. mydomain.com/file.php?NAME=VALUE&NAME2=VALUE2&etc. thats where the spiders start to lose you sometimes. |

Just change it over to php and try to avoid using frames.

just keep in mind that google likes TEXT more than CODE.
