Take a look at the table top edge + those two smaller platforms on top of it that the cage is resting on. Plenty of space under there, or at least enough.

I worked for Jimmy Dixon, a stage magician who made quite a name for himself back in the '60s, for 2 years. He did a stage show on the carnival circuit to "tip a guzump" (translation: get a crowd of people together to do a specific kind of sales presentation).

Illusions, which are defined as magic tricks that involve the human body or larger objects, are often based on simple optical tricks. The two platforms that the cage is resting on appear to be thinner than they actually are because the upper one is narrower than the lower. It takes advantage of the fact that a triangle appears to be less tall than a square of equal height plus we tend to not group the two thicknesses together when we view the arrangement.

This, plus the thickness of the table top itself and the edging around it, adds up to a space larger that it appears. It's commonly used for a variety of disappearing and change-over acts.

I shall now remove the mask that I am required to wear when revealing these secrets. So don't anyone peek!

The back of the cage swings open from the bottom... while the magician walks around the cage, the assistant crawls out and walks behind him then offstage.

MrIzzz 10-25-2003 12:43 PM

its all done with smoking weed and mirrors

Ross 10-25-2003 12:43 PM

My uncle does Magic. He's very good at it.

This trick works with mirrors so I believe....

siccmade 10-25-2003 12:59 PM

It's all about the mirrors

Dude on TV made an elephant dissapear in a cage like that, only it was a lot bigger... obviously

but afterwards, he explained it.

press a button, the mirrors slide over and it looks like no ones in it

press that bitch again, and they go back, and theres your object
