External Hard Drive and X-Ray Machines?
 

I am leaving for vacation tomorrow and of course, the laptop and external are coming with me.

I have never taken either on a plane before. Will either one get fucked up by an X-Ray machine?

I've run my notebook through airport x-ray lots of times.

I bet they take a long, hard look at that external drive :)

I'm also interested in knowing if carrying 1-2 external HDD causes problems with security. I know data doesn't get compromised but what about the bs where electronics have to be functional to prove they aren't a bomb ?

You'll be putting them in a plastic tray along with your shoes and computer, then they go through the xray. No big deal, no damage. no need to power on. The xrays can detect organic substance which you shouldn't have in those external drives.
