Will wireless Internet take off?

Due to my recent install of a really fast 802.11b network, that is cheaper than DSL- Cable, I am forced to wonder:

Will 802.11b be a viable solution for a new rush of high speed customers?

This poll is meant to draw out both sides, those that are new to the idea, and those that are not.

Another poll will come to try to understand even more about how much is known about this promising technology.

no probably not... too expensive

nothing will ever beat the security of a wired network

maybe

actually it already takes off in my country.... adsl is expensive and of poor quality over here, so there are many good 802.11b isp's

Oh, I thought you mean cell phone internet. So I voted no.

We have wireless home network, it works fine.

Or you mean broadcasting signals, like sateliate stuff? That I don't know. :(

Maybe not, I paid $320 a month for unlimited ISDN from verizon.

I now pay $29 a month, only $250 for an install. That was of course to absolutely ensure that I was getting a very strong signal from very far away. I could have went for a $100 install.

Not gonna burst the bubble yet on how far I am from my 'tower'. I can tell you that my cellphone sucks, but my wireless on it's 'free' spectrum, has not failed once.

And yes, even during rainstorms, my sat tv failed, but 802.11b kept going.

i think it will definitely take over

I'm talking good ol' non 3G cell phone internet.

Seems a few already have a wirleess network already.

As far as security, I have yet to see many cracks in a good IPSEC network. Couple that with a good Cisco VPN, or even a microsoft win2k VPN solution, and how could it not be as good as wired security?

IMHO hiding wires doesn't increase security, it's the same idea as obscurity.

20 years from now, everything will be wireless.
