Where to go when visiting Cali/L.A.?

Flying to L.A. for the weekend, in a few weeks. Going with a few female friends, so I want to show them a good time. I guess the first night I want to stay near West Hollywood, or atleast somewhere close to the action. The second night, I want to head out towards the beach, Malibu or somewhere not too far.

Ive been looking online, but haven't found anything that interests me, and if i do find something - its not in a very good location. There are also a lot of mixed hotel reviews, so I don't know whats good or bad, any hotel/location suggestions please???

Would you also suggest getting a rental car, or should i just travel by taxi. How crazy is the traffic & streets!?

Thanks...

Well theres lots of mexcian people selling stuff in downtown that you can visit. Or you can see all the homeless at Venice and Santa Monica beach. Hmm, you can see lots of graffiti and gang life in south central. Thats about it.

hmmm...i'm flying to Cali in a couple of weeks too to visit a couple of girlie friends :girl but eck,Creep, homeless in santa monica?? thats where i'm staying....lets hope i stay sober enough to make it home and don't get mistaken for the homeless....:winkwink: heard the night life was pretty wild??

Stevo, try the Sheraton Universal.
Your next door to Universal City Theme park and City Walk which has movies and shops and good resteraunts. It also puts you freeway close to Hollywood or the beaches. Get a rental car its much cheaper than a taxi. As far as the beach check out Santa Monica Pier. From there you can take a scenic drive up PCH highway to Malibu and find a nice place to eat on the beach.

Hope that helps!

Joe

If you have a few chicas with you, you should just come stay @ my house!!! 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, pool, jacuzzi, guest computer cable conection... no clothes alowed (on the girls) JK

not really kidding about the clothes... are they models? Do they need jobs?

For partying stay in West Hollywood..the Standard &
Mondrian are cool hip hotels with the hottest hangouts. You also have a lot to do on the Sunset strip. Lots of bars, restaurants, clubs, ect.. Or the Four Seasons is also very nice.

Heading towards the beach..go to Malibu and eat at Geoffrey's or the cove. If you want to stay at a hotel near the beach, the argyle or casa del mar are great.

For daytime activities, hit Universal Studios (if you are into that) and City Walk, Venice Beach, Rodeo Drive and 3rd Street Prominade in Santa Monica.

I would rent a car..LA is huge and places are so spread out. A decent car will cost $50/day and you'll spend over $100 in cabs for sure. And there is a car rental place near those hotels in West Hollywood.

Disneyland ........... Really nothing good to see around here. But Grumans Chinese theater is good.

Yeah, homeless in Santa Monica, but I'm talking about the beach and that general vicinity. They all sleep on the sand in sleeping bags and cardboard about 50 yards apart from each other.

That's great advice... unless your female friends are freaky & naked.

could always use the wonderful public transportation ... lol

dude ... rent a car ... not a damn thing is close to anything else here ... traffic is a litte interesting, just remember turn signals are a sign of weakness ... you will just make people take your space : )

XXcrowXX 10-23-2003 09:59 PM

dont know ya, so not sure what you are into, but here are a few places to go

the santa ana's are supposed to be blowing, so they may bring some heat with them and should keep the skies a little closer to blue.

if you are looking for the more local beach spots with a 20's - mid 30's crowd pier avenue in Hermosa is a fun spot and the girls will enjoy ... about 10 bars all within walking distance and a pier at the end. Good places to eat too.

If you want to do the artsy thing there is the getty. its free on the weekends and best way to get there is to park in santa monica and take a bus (they don't have parking ... at least that's what i remember). some cool art and good views of la.

if you want to see the odd-ball part of la ... hit venice and head to the boardwalk around noon - 2 ... its not what it used to be due to shops chasing off a chunk of the street vendors, but it still has its charm.

there is a masquerade ball on sat night that is big every year for halloween ... every type of person will be there from a little strange to very strange ... lol

there is no point to seeing the stars in the street

santa monica is a good place, granted it has a little riff raff here and there, but the promenade on 3rd street and the surrounding area (all safe to walk and / or stumble) has something for every taste.

i went to college here and have been around the city for a bit ...the key to knowing where to go is to ask ... what circle do you want to run in?

wild night life in Santa Monica? hmmm, news to me . . . .and yeah, SM has some laws that pretty much encourage the homeless to hang out there now

Stay the hell away from here

stevo 10-23-2003 10:34 PM

I went ahead and got a nice room at the Hotel Casa del Mar. I tried ordering by phone and they wanted $1500 for one night, so instead I got the same exact room online for under $500. I think ill stick with the internet pricing.

Im not sure where i want to stay the first night, i dont land til 10pm. So ill probably just go to Le Parc Suites. It could be nicer, but it seems like a convenient location.

Getting a rental car should be fun. Im only 22, and most of the places require you to be 25. But we shall see.

I live in Orlando; so Universal, City Walk, Disney are all played out. I guess there really isnt much to Cali. So im just going to relax.

POV Porn guy, nope they're not models. 2 of the 3 girls i wouldnt mind putting on my sites though! They're all sweet lookin 18/19 yr olds. But they're my friends, and i dont think they're that type. Its kinda funny actually how i met them, my girlfriend left me for another guy. So all her best friends are now hanging with me. I'm a nice guy, so they didnt like how she treated me. So I guess we're all teaming up against her now :winkwink:

when Kitty came out here in 2001/2002 I took here to Venice Beach, followed up by an exciting trip thru Watts so she could see where the Rodney King riots started, and of course, see the Watts Towers
