European Acacia issues - Help

Hello!

Is there anyone with info about Acacias license in Europe ?
Just got the third letter from them with nov 30 as end date.

Is it exactly the same as in US ?
Does the new "software patent" laws in Europe affect this ?

In Europe we can't have patent on an Idea and that is
exactly what Acacia has, so I wanna know if maybe we in
Europe can go on without a license just beacuse we are
from Europe ??

And not because it's fucked up anyway and maybe they lose
in court in US also.

Does Homegrown have a European office? :)

You need some company over there willing to fight like Homegrown and the rest of the group is fighting in the U.S.

What about Payserve, aren't they pretty big?

Sue them. In Europe it does not coast an arm and a leg like in the US or wait until they sue you as they have to do it in your home country.

If you listen to the recording of the Q3 Acacia meeting they specifically state that they are expanding globally. http://www.adaciaresearch.com

Acacia can not touch you with their software patents in the EU, the European Union recently voted that patents of this nature were not enforcable :thumbsup

Another of the benefits of having Corporate offices located in England thanks to Lee :thumbsup

calm down and wait... they can't do much at all for now. If they really decide to take the risk and sue you... guess where they have to file the lawsuite. It costs a fortune and so far they have enough to do in th US. Depending on how the shit ends in the US you can think about what to do.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. If you're hosting in the US or processing in the US, I would imagine they could send a court order to them to stop your business. I'm not a lawyer, but I do believe the above is possible.

Hosting in America is no longer a must for webmasters.
Many countries now have hosting companies which are equally as good as those running in America.

The very cheap value of the dollar makes it worthwhile hosting there, but if this scam company wants to try and push its shit this way, I am sure usa webhosting companies will see a mass exodus of European clients -

The implications of this alone could be quite severe -

If you zip the video files on your website, does that still mean that you're infringing there patent?

Acacia says it does, but they say a lot of things that most here do not agree with.

While that's true, a lot of times it's simply easier to keep load times as fast as possible. Although an entire operation from hosting to processing to payouts can be done in Europe and out of the reaches of Acacia.

:thumbsup and if you don't follow the court order they shut down the domain. It's happened before with Acacia.

You dont have to have your site hosted in the US, you only need to have a .com or .net for them to send a court order to internic to have your domain name shut off.

I've not recieved my letter yet. But they are very welcome to send it to me. I'm gathering information slowly, and it doesn't cost shit to fight them here in Europe. I will see them in court and I'm not running away from them by moving my hosting to Europe.
