Keeping PR on domain drops?

I've got a domain that's kept its PR5 for months after expiring with the dotster parked page but I put up a link farm and all the sudden it's gone to no PR(not even 0, grey bar). How the fuck can I avoid this? :(

Dont put a link farm in it. :thumbsup

Bah, I guess I'll only get drops that have some value in their current backlinks/listings

The more outgoing links you have on a page, the lower that particular page's rank will go.

You mean the PR that will be transferred to the outbound links right? The actual PR of the page doesn't go down as far as I know. I'm pretty familiar with the algorithm so I only put a few links up. I've heard of sites getting a PR0 for this but this was straight up dropped by google. Blows my mind I tell ya.

that totally depends on the sites internal linkstructure.

I'm by no means an expert on google. I also don't know exactly what you consider a link farm. Just going from stuff I've read, the number of outgoing links, going out to other domains on a page, will bring the rank of that particular page down. While their may be more technical terms for how it works, it does follow logic that a page loaded with outgoing links will have little relevant content and is only some sort of directory, if not spam, and thus should be lowered in rank.

I've also seen things saying google is getting smarter about finding and dropping pages that are set up only to try to manipulate the ranking system.

Again, I'm no expert...Just throwing ideas. :)

u can balance it out a bit though... by adding links to sites with high PR, google will see this as helpful to the user and award points..

Even though google is getting better at finding PR manipulaters and such, they do not straight up drop the pages. They still will be ranked although partially penalized or possibly PR0'd. The fact that your page is just not there could have been a google problem or a leftover effect from the Dotster move. You said it kept the PR5 for months, well that depends which months. If it was during that whole Google DB fuck up, then it could have simply been old data.

Also did you move to a new host after the dotster thing? Google is cutting back on people just buying domains for PR. I found that out the hard way. I bought a friends old domain after it expired for him. It was a PR6 and he didnt really care. After two months i found that hey, the page is PR1?!?! The fun of SEO...

Yeah I switched hosts from Dotster but only a few days after I registered it. When I checked google it was still listed as a page that had been won by a pool.com member(not me). When I registered it it listed the dotster page, then I switched hosts and now it's no more. It's only one domain so it's no real big deal but I'm wondering now if all my PR domains are gonna be fucked :helpme

anyone can confirm this? If a high PR site links me... will it help my pr to link back to that site... ?

Hindsight 10-19-2003 08:34 PM

they dont have to link to u to earn u points, u just link to them. Google places alot of its results positioning on content and relevance (different to PR), better outbound links = good content.

Google continuously spiders links to fetch infos but it doesn't quite finalize its database until the google "dance" which happens once a month yet depending on back log it can take Google upto 3 dances to finally update an old info. So more than likely Google already knew your domain didn't exist anymore but didn't remove it from its database until after you registered your domain.. just too bad :(

Don't believe everything you hear :winkwink: If that was the case, TGPs that list clean galleries would have no PR huh? :Graucho

They do have to linkback to you to earn good points for better PR otherwise, you could simply link to yahoo, google, msn and earn big points for free lol. Optimization (positioning on content and relevance) is a different story cos no matter how good your PR is will do you no good unless you know how to optimize your page efficiently.

No it won't directly help you but will help whoever linking to you, on the other hand, why would a high PR link to you if you are not linking back? Also, if you linkback to all that links to you it'd be easy for google to see who else is linking to you therefore possibly grant you higher ranking :)
