Fuck Comcast Cable
October 9th: Cable slows tech appt set for Oct. 10th.
October 10th: Cable woking fine when tech shows up. Tech leaves. October 11th. Cable slows tech dispatched. Cable is working by the time the tech gets here 5 hours later. Tech checks connections, replaces modem, flags account so that I can get a tech here within 30 minutes of future problems, and leaves. October 15th: Cable slow. Phone tech has never heard of a flagged account. Sets apointment for next day. October 16th: Tech shows up late. Cable is working fine. Tech runs tests, puts connection on it's own port outside, and again tells me that he has flagged the account then leaves. I call customer service and complain. They issue me a credit for a little over $23.00 :321GFY October 18th: Cable totally out for 3 hours. Too fucking late to call tech support. October 19th: Cable slow again. Phone tech says never heard of flagged account and offers to set appt for 20th. Call escalated to Supervisor. Tech shows up 3 hours later and of course the cable is working fine at this point. Tech again checks connections, replaces modem, calls dispatch and tells them to flag the account and actually gives me a ticket number for reference. The phone techs are testing the line while on the phone with me each time. Packet loss varies from 20 to 80% but is perfect when the techs are here so there must not be a problem. :feels-hot Today the phone idiot got pissed at me because I would not remove my router and play his troubleshooting game. Read the notes on the account you lazy fuck. Why would you continue to send techs here when the problem is NOT happening? They have wasted time and money on sending 4 techs instead of sending 1 tech when the problem is happening. How in the hell can you expect to trouble shoot something if the tech is not around when the problem is? |
Get backup DSL

Aaron get a cable line amplifier yo.
I got me one and its boosts the signal by 30db's Give it a try man I bet it will solve your prob, seems that it intermmitent and the cable signal strength seems to fluctuate. |

The longest Comcast had me offline was 6 days.
That was a few years ago, but it was the longest 6 days of my life. :Oh crap |

Do you have any splits, where you might split cable to a different room for TV before the split to the cable modem?
jDog |
yeah a cheap splitter will weaken the signal. also use the optical cable they provided, should be rg6. i remember when i put a long cheaper cable rg59 i had the same problem. rg6 is bit thicker than rg59
|
Not surprised.. I've never had a successful cable connection for long anywhere, ever.

OH man I'm glad someone brought up comcast issues. For a long time my cable modem was rigged with rubber bands because the power cord would get slightly off kilter if someone walked past it too fast, slammed a door, or sneezed.
I finally had them come out to replace it on Thursday. It all works fine but it won't work with my router. I'm sure it's something stupid that I can adjust in the settings somewhere but I really haven't had hours of spare time to fart around with it. Is anyone familiar with what comcast could have done to mess it up? And how can I easily fix it? |
i wasnt here when they installed my cable. i get home and theres a fucking cable going across the floor against the wall from one side of the room to the other. why are they so lazy, dont they get paid by the hour?

Yea, the best thing to do is split your cable into 2. Plug one into your modem and the other you can split how ever many times you need for your t.v's. Just make sure the cable going into your modem is split only once at the MAIN cable outlet. Not some outlet in a bedroom or something, but the cable outlet that goes straight the the cable lines outside. And of course, a cable amp can't hurt but it's not magic. Just make sure the cable going into your modem is only split only once at the main outlet.
A lot of comcast cable techs will split your internet line many times or use bedrooms outlets. Whatever is easier 'cause they don't care. I had to re cable my house after the comcast guy installed mine. |

I havent really had that many problems in the last 3 years with Comcast here outside of philly. The tech support is absolutely and totally worthless for anything, the installers are totally in the dark in terms of anything other than being late. Comcast is a rackshack connection. Your on your own all the way |

I HATE COMCAST! Everytime I call comcast tech support they make me unplug my router and do all this bs troubleshooting even when I know the problem is on their end. They get pissed when I start telling them what's wrong and what they have to do to fix the problem, so I have to play their little troubleshooting game and unplug shit, count to 10, stand on head, blah blah blah I HATE COMCAST!!! but dial-up is worse:) |
I got fastdsl, verizon dsl, comcast cable/modem, and aol dialup.
I'm thinking of dropping aol but it's a sentimental thing. :glugglug Partytime :drinkup |
i cant even get dsl here, let alone a different cable company. i'm fucked.

Me and my roommate wired or own, but right in front of the doorway there was a single wire that showed for about 2 feet, and when I had business cable installed the guy that came out saw it and he's like this is a hazzard - I'll come back at 5 or if I finish all my other places first and I'll rewire it for you because I don't want my name as the last tech here and have this looking like this. I guess they could get fired or something. So he came back and rewired the whole house! :Graucho I thought that was sweet! jDoG |

Internet Cable in the NorthWest. sucks , i have had it for about 4 years now and every year about this same time (in october) we start getting alot of outages and it pretty much keeps doing it on and off all winter long. last year we had outages that would last for like 3 fucking days , these fucks wont do a fucking thing about it , all they wana do is send some fucking idiot tech out and by time they get out here the cable is back on working fine. The best solution i have found is if you bitch at the phone tech , they will credit your account with like a free day or what ever , so when this thing disconnections , even if its for a brief second i call and get credited. SUX but even when the cable goes out around here so does dsl , its all on the same lines from what they told me. |
