VeriSign Sells Domain Registrar
Quote:
VeriSign said Thursday it is selling its Network Solutions domain registrar unit to a private investment company for about $100 million in cash and debt, so that it can concentrate on developing its network infrastructure businesses.
Network Solutions is the biggest registrar of domain names -- a service with which customers can buy .com and .net Internet addresses. VeriSign purchased the company in 2000 for nearly $21 billion in stock, but has seen the unit's market share drop steadily over the past three years due to heavy competition.
