Ban cell phone cameras?
I am listening to Lanigan and Malone (the funniest morning show in the world, even though Malone is more of a jerk than he used to be - http://www.wmji.com/) and they have a guest on right now talking about cell phone cameras and privacy issues. He's describing specific cases of the picture phones being abused and the resulting consequences.
I think he's being an alarmist but it's an interesting topic. When people see a phone, they think of talking, not picture-taking. You could wander into an office, a locker room, a government installation, etc, and have a fair chance of getting pictures without anyone noticing. Cell phones are so common these days, I bet 99% of the time no one would even notice that you had one with you. SpaceAce |
It amazes me how many people in this business have these things. A cell phone is a tool, not a toy. :2 cents:

I agree with you, though. I think cell phones are for making calls. I couldn't care less if a cell phone takes pictures, that won't even be a factor in my purchase decision. SpaceAce |
yeah, i bought a new phone recently. i actually bought a color screen model, only because it has the newer, better signal system, otherwise i would have just stuck with a regular b&w screen. i really don't need fancy wallpapers and games for my phone. i switched mine to the calendar, just because it's more useful.
i think the camera phones are kinda dumb. if you need a camera that bad, carry an elf. not like it's that big, and the quality is exponentially better. |
I read an article that said these camera/cell phones are being banned in gyms and places like that in some countries. The article also said they are being used to distribute child porn as well.
But let's face it. The march of technology cannot be stopped. This is what drove the Uni-bomber nuts. Did you read his manifesto? He was upset mainly that this introduction of cheap technology makes it quickly and widely accepted and adopted. We welcome it because at first it seems to give us more freedom but at the time we do not see the freedoms it takes away. This phone/camera is a perfect example of this principle. I use my cell phone because it is convenient, effective and cheap. But I will tell you this. Any girl knows that the cell phone is a record of your daily activities. It tracks who calls you and who you call and when. When you turn it off your girlfriend can tell and then wonders what you were doing. If you leave it on anyone you are with will wonder who is calling you. If leave it on and don't answer it then she may wonder why you did not answer. You are now linked to that device and there is nothing you can do about it except throw it in the garbage. And how easy it must be for someone to flick a switch and listen to all your voice mail messages and tap all your calls. Did you know that certain cell phone models can be switched on to act as microphones. It can be done. I have seen it done. Think about that for a moment. http://www.*************/articles/innovation.htm |

Anyone who would use a cell phone cam for the wrong purpose, would do it anyway with some other gadget if that is there intent.
There are a lot of cams available that are way smaller, and way more concealable. |
My friend has the sprint phone with the camra.. its kinda cool.. He uses is now and then just if he sees something he wants to take a quick snap of.. personally i would never use it.. but its ok i guess
|
BAN THE ELECTRICITY!!!!!!! IT IS EVIL!!!! MUahhaHAhaHahaha
|
i've had my sprint camera phone in quite a few strip clubs they only noticed once
|
cell phones that take pics are banned on most govt installations already. if you take one on base or god forbid a secure area you will have a lot of questions to answer for awhile. i feel better not even having a camera on my cell phone. i might spontaneously starting take pictures of my genitals and that's not kosher.

Hmmmm....could be a new site... XXXCameraPhone.com

I don't see a problem with camera phones. Tools are boring, cameras and pda functions give them added attraction! I have a camera phone and it kicks ass. Right now the pictures aren't that high quality but I'm sure quality will increase over time.
If a camera shouldn't be in a certain place, then I agree the phone cameras should be banned. But they'll continue to be made for sure. If you get into a car accident you have a camera right away! I think that's pretty cool... not that I get into many car accidents. |
My new cell phone has a camera. I'm currently in California and Tanker is God only knows where. We've been sending each other pictures as if we were gay lovers. The cameras have their purpose. It's fun.
