Rodney King arrested again - I bet those cops were walking on egg shells with him
Rodney King, 38, arrested in Rialto
By GINA TENORIO, Staff Writer RIALTO - Rodney King is in trouble again. The 38-year-old black man, whose beating by white police officers sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was arrested by Rialto police Saturday on suspicion of domestic violence. Authorities said King's girlfriend, JoAnne Naser, 22, of Rialto, called police claiming he had punched her in the stomach during an argument. They had started fighting on Friday night, said Sgt. Shawn O'Connell of the Rialto Police Department. Naser told police King had been drinking all night before they began to fight, O'Connell said. "She claimed that during the fight, he tried to choke her,' O'Connell said. "That night, she got away but never called the police.' The next day, the argument erupted again and led to more violence, O'Connell said. King was arrested at the home in the 1000 block of E. Jackson Street. Naser complained of stomach and neck pain and was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton by Rialto paramedics. King was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. His bail was set at $50,000. He remained in jail as of Monday. This is the latest in a long string of arrests for King. In August, a San Bernardino County court ordered him to enter a six-month drug treatment program after his April 13 arrest at the scene of a collision. King had crashed a Ford Expedition into a house on Pepper Avenue in Rialto. Officers reported King was under the influence of PCP and had been traveling at speeds up to 100 miles an hour. King, however, told a Fontana judge he was not under the influence and that he lost control of the vehicle because of speed and potholes in the road. He eventually pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in exchange for dismissal of two related misdemeanor charges. King had been scheduled to return to court Feb. 18. The District Attorney's Office has not reviewed the domestic violence case as of Monday, because it took place over the Columbus Day weekend, District Attorney Michael A. Ramos said. "If he's on probation, then we would have a hearing,' Ramos said. "I don't know what the situation is. But we take all these matters seriously.' King was also arrested on Sept. 29, 2001, by Pomona police on suspicion of being under the influence of PCP and exposing himself in public. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to spend a year in treatment. That plea also resolved a charge of being under the influence of a psychedelic drug stemming from a Sept. 29, 2001, arrest by Claremont police at a hotel. King gained notoriety after a bystander videotaped several white Los Angeles police officers beating him in 1991. The officers were tried and acquitted of police brutality, leading to riots throughout the city. |
