It'll be FreeBSD & Gnome or KDE on all the servers except the designers.

...um cool.

Why?

Thinking out loud.

I was just thinking about all the windows software and crap to buy.


So instead I think it will be FreeBSD, Mozilla, Intranet & Web applications for staff .

Lots of reasons.... heres a few:


* Security:

Hackers love windows, IE, outlook etc.
They love mailing people viruses and trjoans. The office would be safe from external attacks that target windows, IE, outlook or other applications running on windows.


* Productivity:

They will be less familiar with the operating system so they will probably use it more for work and be less likely to install their favorite game.. Ie... Quake, Counterstrike etc.


* Cost:

Much cheaper to get the "lastest version" and update the OS's - (can't beat FREE)

* Great (free) Applications:

OpenOffice, Mozilla firebird (web), Mozilla Thunderbird (mail), IM clients
