Does that work for puppies? Any ideas on how to stop chewing? My mini pin is redecorating my living room into a replica of Downton Beirut...circa 1980's.

KRL 10-14-2003 06:12 AM

DJ, you'll only fuck your cat's head up more when you do negative punishment.

Cats are extremely intelligent and don't respond well to being hit, locked in shoe boxes, and other stuff like that. If you can't deal with it you should just give it to someone who can.

bitter apple spray.. it does work, but it may take a little while.. its either that or a shock collar though.

dogs dont mind water, so the spray bottle thing wouldnt work, he's probably think you're playing with him.

GFED 10-14-2003 06:14 AM

Just yell at your pet. If you talk to your pets enough they understand what you say.

Thats sick. How would you feel if your mum stuck you in a cupboard for a whole day?

All you need to do is not show them any attention for a few hours. Animals are clever they will get the message!

TomWaits 10-14-2003 06:48 AM

Cats are smart, but they need to learn the hard way.

Spray water and scream at them when they do something wrong.
Then they hide, and usually in few minutes they come back to you, and then you need to be good them and give them comfort.

Works with my two cats.

LOL, will never work. They don't give a fuck.
If he's scratching the sofa, and you just play like u don't notice it... they will contine anytime.

LadyMischief 10-14-2003 06:52 AM

Try using a super-soaker on the cat. It's like punishment from above :P Works well.

What did your cat do that was so bad?

beemk 06-20-2004 01:32 PM

i usually yell at him if i catch my dog in the act, or give him a time out. its better to reward them when they do something good than to punish them at all. if you think locking your pet in a shoebox is acceptable mabye you should take some training classes.

Cruel behavior. You can only "punish" an animal if you catch it in the particular act you want it to stop doing.

The cat has no idea why it's in the box, and I'm sure it's not happy.

Moron.

Spunky 06-20-2004 01:36 PM

Stick it in the freezer for a few minutes

As my above post .. You can only train out negative behaviour while it's occuring. If you come home, and your sofa is shredded, it's too late to punish the animal.

You can try a squirt bottle of water if you catch him in the act.

Get your dog a crate. That's the plastic shipping crates they sell at pet stores. Make it comfortable with a blanket or pad. Let your puppy go in and out himself, until he is comfortable with it. It won't take long before the puppy begins to see the crate as his own, safe place. Never "punish" the puppy in the crate. It's his safe place.

A properly trained dog will show no mind to being put in his crate when you go out. He'll happily curl up and sleep. Both of my Rottweilers love their crates and will go their on command. This will save you further furniture damage.

Dogs that don't mind water will still dislike being sprayed with it. My dogs sometimes swim in the pool, but always run if you splash water at them.

Shock collars should NEVER be used if you are not a professional, or working with one.

maxdaname 06-20-2004 01:44 PM

Don't give them food and water for a couple of days! If they don't die, I'm sure they'll learn a valuable lesson!:thumbsup

Madd 06-20-2004 06:24 PM

I usually just throw something at my dog and yell profanity

Jakke PNG 06-20-2004 06:27 PM

I either yell, if he's only been a bit bad. Or when he's done something serious I take him by the neck and roll him on his back and grin on his face. I'm the fucking boss. lol. :)

Get yourself a bottle of hot sauce. Stuff so hot that you will not be able to stand it.

Cats
If your cat bothers you while you eat put a little bit of hot sauce on its lips, and everytime it bothers you let it smell the bottle. After that she will not come near your food anymore.

Dogs
Put some hot sauce in a spray bottle and everytime the dog barks or chews you spray the sauce in its mouth.

Might work with dogs but cats are different. My cat has a problem about pissing on new throw rugs. I caught him in the act once and rolled him up in his piss with his head out and the stupid (or smart) cat didn't try to move. I felt so bad that I released him and threw the carpet out.

After a few throw rugs, I learn to bring them home and let them sit in a corner for a while and the cat doesn't care. When he does something bad now, we just ignore him. And, a couple of days later we both forget. :)

My cat just doesn't like having his feelings hurt, much more than any other punishment I could give him.

And being his owner, the worst thing for him is to know that I'm upset with him. If I get upset at him, he knows it... and he'll give it a few minutes and come over and nuzzle up to me to apologize.

Cats are very smart. Mine can walk right by a roll of toilet paper now without touching it.... believe me, that one took a long time... but he learned. It upsets me, so he leaves it alone.

Marcus Aurelius 06-20-2004 07:40 PM

I dont abuse my animals, there fucking animals, they do stupid shit, thats why their called animals, if you cant deal with it, dont have any. Verbal scolding and a smack on his rear is all my dog needs to straighten his ass out, much more would be taking it too far.

I don't believe in second chances for pets. They fuck up once and I have them put to sleep. We are on dog #43 this year.

:1orglaugh

But seriously... you cant punish a pet..

However, you can train it so it wont fuckup.. and you train your pet with food.

If it ever makes a serious mistake that requires punsihment (like shitting on the carpet) electrocute or shoot it.

Fucksakes 06-20-2004 08:08 PM

today I ran after the cat and he hid under the damn bed, took me like 10 mins to get him, I carried him down the stairs, wanting to break all his bones by this time, I put a close pin on his ear cause i had it in my hand at the time and threw him in the room for a few hours.
