Paypal is just fucking shit

I got this email from them:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PayPal is currently performing regular maintenance of our security
measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance and
placed on Limited Access status. Protecting the security of your PayPal
account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this
may cause.

To restore your account to its regular status, you must complete the
following steps:

1. Change your PayPal password
2. Change your security questions and answers
3. Contact PayPal Customer Service

To get started, please log in to your PayPal account and click on the
'Limited Access' link on your Account Overview.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
The PayPal Team
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the hell is up with that? They just select someone random to change your password and change your security questions? That's just fucked up.

What the fuck is up with those systems anyway? First epassporte and now paypal?

God save the queen for regular credit cards. It is clear to me those "e-card" companies are just finding ways to collect a few bucks of your accounts without any reason whatsoever. If that's the deal, i'm out!
How is one expected to do a serious biz with serious transactions if they just decide to "suspend" your account randomly??
:321GFY Paypal :321GFY Epassporte
I have never done something other then puyrchase templates and design and scripts with those accounts so what the hell is wrong with that? Or is it just that i didn't do enough transactions and you didn't make enough $$ on me so that you have to pull tricks to make an extra buck?

Yngwie 10-12-2003 04:43 AM

are you sure its really paypal that sent you that? considering the fake emails going around its hard to trust.. could be one of those emails that looks like its from paypal but as soon as you change your password or whatever it asked you to di the sender of the email has access to your paypal account and can clean you out..

Ok then, I guess that Pay Pal is going to the dogs then, ha ha ha.

Speaking of scams, it's funny, I got another one in from an Ebay scamer, they wanted to know my Ebay login, password, then my email address and my EMAIL PASSWORD. If anyone is stupid enough to fall for that one, they deserve whatever damage they get outta it, ha ha.

saver 10-12-2003 06:50 AM

yup, you can say that again...... ah well, back to the old visa card :)

loco12 10-12-2003 06:56 AM

If you have got limited acces you are fucked. Paypal are gonna keep the money in the account and you have no chance of getting it back. They stole £1300 from me 5 months ago and asked similar questions. They make a fortune out of limiting accounts and there is nothing you can do to get the money back. Next they will ask for a fax of your driving lisence, then say it came through to them not clear enough to read and for you to blow it up 200%. Then they say they never received it, so you send it again and they do fuck all.

Anyone who has large amounts of funds sitting in their paypal account and it using it for adult deals is risking losing the fucking lot.

You have been warned.

Thats true Paypay have tens of millions of accounts and every day they cream of millions of dollars by limiting accounts. The account holder tries to get his money out for a few weeks and several emails and phonecalls then gives up as he is getting nowhere. Paypal just takes the money and it's game over man.

You are fucked.

That is what I got yesterday. The funny thing is that my card has really expired just at Sept. So I could fall on it. But saw that PIN field (PIN is never required for on-line CC processing) and fake 128 protection record that doesn't reflect in browser status bar...

That was the e-mail:

And that was what I found following the link:

This has got nothing to do with this....... this isn't any scam, it's a "legit" paypal operation to attempt and steal your money.

Phoenix66 10-12-2003 07:52 AM

And something about PayPal.

I had my account blocked once. But I sent all papers they were asking for and it was unblocked in 3 days. That was 1.5 year ago.

Just a few weeks ago they caught me on adult content transactions and shut the account down. And know what? They kindly agreed to send a rest of money by wire as I asked instead of sending the check. And more than that - they told me I can open another account, as long as will not be using it for adult. I probably won't anuway, because it's almost useless for me without being allowed to receive money for adult deals.

I had a debit card from them as well. And the funniest thing is that I was accessing it and withdrawing cash all the time from restricted country (though account was opened legally - I was in USA then).

So I don't believe most of these scary stories about PayPal. It's just a matter of how lucky are you with support (they have a lot of stuff and it seems that different people supervise different account sets). And how tolerant and skillfull you are in dealing with clerks.

BTW - I also do not think PayPal can earn anything from the money they block. I think it's just prohibited by financial regulations. Why else would they ask for separate agreement for Money Market? They ask for it because they are restricted to make interest from clients money without special clients permition.

Read from the above email:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance and placed on Limited Access status

To restore your account to its regular status, you must complete the
following steps:

1. Change your PayPal password
2. Change your security questions and answers
3. Contact PayPal Customer Service

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What part of this didn't you understand? My point: they select random accounts and just place it on "limited access".
Figure this: you go to your bank and a person tells you that they have randomly selected your account and froze it. If you still want your money (maybe you need to do an urgent payment ?!?!?!) oyu need to change your cc pin, security question and contact their support departement, ON A SUNDAY.
So there you are, no money, payment can't be made and all because they randomly selected you.

NOW you get my point? The way they work sucks, bigtime. :2 cents:

EDIT: nobody should force me or anybody to change pass and security question, that's just plain fucking stupid.
About 2 hours after that you recieve an email saing "thank you for the fax". I NEVER send any fax. I just recieved this:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting PayPal.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We have
not received any faxes on your account and I apologize. To restore
full access to your PayPal account your can change your Password and
Security Questions and add a credit card to your PayPal account.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us
again.

So now i gotto add a credit card............. AGAIN???
And we got to trust those people with our money? Common people.

RedBumper 10-12-2003 10:13 AM

Instead of herrasing people they should just enforce their terms. I can name you a dozen adult sites out of head accepting paypal and they "randomly" suspend my account and all i did was paid for a few scripts and designs.
Paypal needs to get their facts straight and sorth things out and not randomly select money and freeze it because that's practicly what they do. :2 cents:

Phoenix66 10-12-2003 01:55 PM

Hmm. PayPal has it's own rules and you agreed to them when you signed up. If you did not read them - that's your problem.

And you are lucky you did not have your bank account frozen. I have one bank that require to change the password at least each 3 month. And there was a situation when my bank account was frozen, because they needed to clarify the origin of the funds transferred there. That is how they struggle money laundry...

I could give you couple of other examples, but it's a waste of time. Trust me, this entire world stinks if you smell intensively. And PayPal ain't the worst.

Where I agree with you - if you don't like something - don't deal with it. If there are alternatives, indeed. Cause if there are not, you are screwed.

brand0n 10-12-2003 03:33 PM

i think we all agree, paypal sucks cock?

I had a problem with a fraudulent payment. Paypal flagged the transaction right after I moved the money out to my bank.

Which put my paypal account in negative balance, which meant I couldn't purchase anything until the balance was zero.

I called them. They told me what to do to fix it. They were very polite.

Maybe if you call them, they can tell you what to do to resolve this to your satisfaction, even though what you're going through must be annoying for you.

PbG 10-12-2003 08:35 PM

I believe the letter you got was a fake. Additonally I have seen PayPal get some things right and actually protect the merchant! I just wish they still accepted adult transactions.

Of course I would not rely on them or any one processor. I just do not consider that a sound business practice.
