It's a pretty big step up from the Platinum card. Basically, you're pre-approved for home loans up to a certain amount, limo service to airports, free car rentals, free airline upgrades and loads of other stuff. It's a stiff $2,500 a year but you get a free Platinum card with it as well. Accounts vary on your net worth. It's worth it if you buy a lot of property. No appraisal fees, low closing costs, etc.

You cannot apply for this card, your AMEX financial advisor will offer it to you in due time. You must have at least an 800 FICO score.

You can also be suggested by another AMEX Centurion holder.

And you do not have to be THAT rich to get it, at least not in germany. It was a really special thing once, now a lot more people have it and brag with it.

The biggest card is not black anyway, its white. And you really can not get that... You just gotta be in the top forbes list <G> I think there only are 8 people in the world that have it... But it can of course also be a myth... but if I were bill gates, I'd MAKE them give me a special card instead of a Centurion that is all over the place :)

You are correct. If you spend on average $15K a month with AMEX, that should do it, at least in my case it did.

The Centunion Card is the only one Puff Daddy uses ;) I mean, the only one his butler uses for him.

And yes, there are a couple people in this biz that have them. So get back to work.

I had a n amex card and after the third place that did not take amex i dropped it. What good is a black one if no one can take it? Buy property with a CC is cool if the other guy can take CC.

You don't use the card to buy property. They supply pre-approved mortgages through PHP Mortgage services without having the hassle of credit checks and your normal red tape in purchasing a home. I have a lot of cash on hand, otherwise I wouldn't have this card. Credit gives me opportunity to borrow up 95% on just 5% down at the lowest rates possible.

Then I either turn it into an income property or sell it down the line and make a substantial profit. I've doubled my net worth in two years doing this. Can your bank account do this or having a sack of cash in a safe? Hell no!

Ludedude 10-11-2003 11:54 PM

I only spend 3-5K a month on my Platinum card....guess I need to work harder ;)

What I did was this.....Abused my AMEX for everything I could. Then balance transfer everything over to Visa or Mastercard at 0% or whatever you can get. Use AMEX to get mortgages for $100K, $200K if your credit can take it. I got about 450,000 Membership rewards in the last year alone as they give you rewards for the mortgages as well.

Donnie Gangsta 10-12-2003 12:32 AM

Rewards are a scam... I don't get it.... a first class int'l plane ticket uses 150,000 points... And um.. it is hard as fuck to find the proper dates.. I would rather just pay $8k for the ticket and be able to go whenever I want..

IMO it's better to just work really hard and stack cash than to worry about rewards...

Their mortgage thing is good though... out here in Vegas you can double your investment in 2 yrs on a rental house if you just put 20% down.. so their mortgages are really convenient.

Amex rewards seem to be a lot better than any other rewards program.

I am getting some golf clubs next. Maybe 2 more months if my server bills keep going up :(

Rewards are a bit of scam but I really don't give a shit about them anyway. I would do business with them regardless. They provide many services that are very beneficial. Personally, I have never used my rewards. I got about 890,000, a lot of which through mortgages. I purchase my airline tickets anyway for write offs, etc. Never thought of AMEX as a credit card. Always pay the whole thing off every month.

Trax 10-12-2003 01:20 AM

the black card is a fucking sweet card
makes you different ;)

Nice strategy. The 0% Visa thing is a riot...I did that with a small balance and then put the card in the safe. I'll take 0% and never use the thing again so they don't nab me for 7.9% or whatever the rape rate is currently. I always pay the balances off right away but hell, to borrow money at 0% should never be passed up.

Yes it can.

Edit: last building was financed at local bank with zero down.

But to be fair the card sounds very cool and I want one now hehe

You got that right. I have 4 Platinum Visa/Mastercards in my safe with 0% Balance transfer rates and no BT fees. The purchase rates suck at around 7.9% but I'll transfer balances at 0% anyday and use the banks money for up to 60 days for nothing. I always pay my credit cards off each month anyway as well. Another good card is the Discover Platinum for cash back. I heard the Blue is good for that as well. The last thing I need is another credit card.

The bottom line here is I use credit cards to augment my cash supply and for leverage. Cash is always king in my book.

Dax 10-12-2003 08:22 PM

I have an amex platinum and a regular visa with only $5000 limit. :) :thumbsup

I know a few who do in this biz, trust me.

$150k is nothing to charge a year. I could do that easily. The 800 FICO, well I am not close. I know people who charge $100k + a month to amex, easy.

shermo 10-12-2003 10:15 PM

A buddy of mine has one. 20 years old and he's already balling with the big boys. Nothing like being born into wealth. :thumbsup

I make more cash in real estate than this business by far in terms of profit over time and per year. BTW - 800 FICO score can only be obtained through years of perfect credit and smart business decisions. IE...You never miss a bill or carry many balances, buy properties, then sell them working your way up to buy commercial properties like the gentleman above eluded to. I know many wealthy people who have shit credit scores around 700 or less which is considered decent. It all depends on how you play the game.

lexr 10-12-2003 11:08 PM

Took me nine months with an average of $19k spending (most of which was business related) per month on my Amex Platinum. They didn't send me an invitation (probably were waiting a bit longer since I hear they usually want to see you spend that much for at least a year). But I did keep pestering them with letters and phone calls. Eventually they sent me an invitation.

It's widely known that you need an average of $150k/year spending on your Amex Plat before they'll even consider you. The FICO score really isn't as much of an issue if you've been timely with your $150k/year worth of payments (since there is no interest charges and bills must be paid in full). Obviously that's all within reason. If you have a score of 550 they aren't going to give you an American Express Centurion Card. :P
